If the pull start works, but the electric start doesn't try the following. Either give the battery on the generator a full charge, and if after a full charge it doesn't start, get a new battery.

Thanks Leigh. I'll give it a shot but it seems the electric start turns over the engine at a decent rate so I'm assuming the battery's OK. Is there any kind of extra wiring or a spark advancer associated with the electric start verses the pull start?.

    Last idea...change the spark plug!

I have a Briggs and Stratton home stand by generator 7000 it starts in manual but wont start in auto engine just cranks but wont start

make sure gas valve is open, and run switch is ON. I'm not a fan of B&S engines. I have a Generac generator with NO problems.Pull start the unit and let run for 5 mins. Turn off. Now try the electric start. If it does not start, you have an elctical problem when using starter. Make sure battery is fully charged before starting. Hope it helps.

It sounds like it is starving for fuel. You probably need to rebuild the carb.

I Have a Rural King Generator it starts Fine but only runs a few minutes and it shuts off

Make sure the gas is fresh. Also, take off the carb bowl and look for signs of gumming. If there is gooey stuff in the bowl, then the carb needs to be cleaned.
