Hard drive may be bad or installer disk has scratches. Replace hard drive and disk and try again.

iMac G5's cannot run windows alone, but older software can be purchased like Virtual PC to run windows on that unit.

SOURCE: Distorted video on G5 iMac

I will try to give you a troubleshooting if you haven't done so.
first you could try is a PRAM reset, that might help to reset the paths of the logic board with internal components.
If that does not work try to reset SMC/PMU (power Management Unit) to see if that helps.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1894 (article with PMU instructions)

If that does not work and you want to know the issue, try to boot in verbose mode:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492   ( this is the article in apple tech support that explains how to do so.)

When you do that,(in case you can see the log) it will tell you what the machine does while booting.
Try connecting to another screen too to see if it is the screen.

Let me know if this helped, if not I can try to give you a workaround.

SOURCE: problems unlocking the system preferences on my mac

You will need to change your administrator's password you can do this by putting in the system disk in the disk drive. Boot up using the c key. Once booted go up to the file menu and go to the reset password menu and reset your password. Hope this helps

SOURCE: APPLE IMAC G4 - TRYING TO INSTALL OS WITHOUT DISK EJECT BUTTON

Reastart the iMac and at the same time hold down the mouse left click button. If that does not work.

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold the key combination Command-Option-O-F.
Note: The Command key has the Apple and (commandkeysymbol.gif) icons on it.
  3. Release the keys when you see a white screen that says "Welcome to Open Firmware."
  4. At the prompt, type: eject cd
  5. Press Return, then wait a few seconds. The disc drive should eject any disc that is present, and "ok" appears behind your command when the action is complete.
  6. Type: mac-boot
  7. Press Return.

I got mac g4 just got face and ? on it, any have idea what going on it

Typically this is operating system corruption or a failed hard drive. If you can boot to your install media (CD, USB, or recovery partition) try a clean install. You could also try third party software solutions like Disk Warrior or Drive Genius (they supply bootable media) to fix the OS issues or check the disk for failures / corruption

How do I transfer my Tree Maker files from my PC to my iMac.

Family Tree Maker has a Mac version of their software available on their website.
This link also provides some possible solutions for your situation for converting PC version to Mac.

http://ancestry.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3916

If you have any reason to not switch to the Mac version of Family Tree Maker, or have other PC software that may not not be available for Mac, there is an easy solution for this as well, but does require purchasing a copy of Windows. You can install Windows as a second operating system on your Mac to support those applications not compatible with Mac. This can be done using the built in "Bootcamp" utility on your Mac. This allows you to boot to any version of Windows or Linux, as well as your Mac OS. Another method is to install "Parallels" for Mac, which also allows you to install multiple operatings systems, but with the added ability to Mac OS X and Windows simultaneously.

Finder - question mark alternating flashing at start up

p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 13.0px Arial} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 13.0px Arial; min-height: 15.0px}

The flashing question mark indicates that there is a problem with the operating system or hard drive. Try to boot from the Mac OS X install disc by holding down "C" on the keyboard at startup.

If the computer boots normally from the Mac OS X install disc. Go to the Disk Utility from the disc. try to Repair Permissions on the hard drive. If after a while it seemed to work then is it time to reinstall the operating system. If it fails to repair permissions and gives you a bunch of red errors its time to replace the hard drive.

Isight intermittent. G5 Imac 17" The Isight cam I have now dubbed 10sec cam turns off and has to be restarted.

I understand from your problem statement that the internal iSight camera in your G5 iMac turns itself off around 10 seconds after you turn it on.
Create a new temporary user in System Preferences / Accounts. Log out and then log in as this user. Enable the camera. Does it still turn off in 10 seconds? If not, something running in your other user account (a startup program or system preference) is interfering with the operation of your camera.
If you have a spare external drive, install a fresh version of the Mac OS on that drive, then boot from that drive. Does the camera still turn off in 10 seconds? If not, you should run an OS installation with "archive and install" on your internal drive. If it does, you have a hardware problem that requires a Mac tech. If this is indeed a G5 iMac, the repair will likely not be cost-effective.

While trying to install OS10.5 and it will attempt to but it freezes, you the Apple booting circle it stops.

Probably the OS 10.5 version your're installing is not compatible or supported by the system motherboard of your computer model Apple Power Mac G5. per my research from Apple website herewith is their solution quote on what applicable OS to install for such model: "Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) and iMac G5 (iSight) models require Mac OS X 10.4.2 or later, you can t install Final Cut Pro 3.x or earlier versions on these computers. Final Cut Pro 3.x and earlier versions are not supported on any computer running Mac OS X 10.4". best regards
