How do i change the battery on buddy 50

Hi! My battery died when I used my scooter to charge my cell after a hurricane. So then I started using my kick starter alone. It's been that way for a few months. Tonight I had to kick it five times to start and then after I was ready to go home I couldn't get it to kick start! Plus the horn barely blows and the lights are really dim. Could my battery be too dead to kick start?? If I try to change the battery will my scooter work again? Please help!!

SOURCE: buddy 125 scooter is draining brand new battery?

must have a short, is it fitted with an alarm? also make sure it is charging the battery in the first place and isn't just draining it as you ride.

Why won't my lights work

It sounds like your alternator is not charging the battery. Fit a new battery remember to undo negative lead first to remove and fit positive lead first to refit the battery. When the new battery is filled please charge it using less than 1 Amp DO NOT use a car charger or try to jump start it. Your new battery should show 12.5 to 13 volts on a meter for a 12 volt system and 6.3 to near 7 volts for a 6 volt system. Start the scooter and check across the battery terminals your meter should show about 14.4 V for 12 volt battery and about 7.5 V for a 6 Volt one. No voltage increase means your charging circuit is not working. Either the alternator or rectifier(regulator) are not operating correctly. Worst case scenario is both units dead.

The scooter is about five years old or so, batteries are two years old. Faithfully charged, and well taken care of unit, but, just recently the charger started heating up...very, very hot to the touch...why...

hi, the charger unit is breaking down, Sometimes the batteries can cause this problem but I think you find it the charger, when batteries get older they simply don't hold the charge as much as when new, also the way they deliver power can drop off quicker.
