Changing the DVD Region code

How do i change the region code on my comuter. I just bought a DVD which said it was compatiable with all region codes however i cannot play it on this laptop. I have gone into properties - DVD region tab but cannot set my dvd region code to the new zealand region. The chages remaining are 0. Can i change to a new region? if so how please. Thankyou decoder.
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2 I have a similar problem, but more complicated. I changed my region code the other day to watch a foreign film, but was aware that i had another change left so would be able to change it back. But now I insert the region 2 disk (my home region), and WMPlayer (or the Dell Cineplayer) won't play it. It says:

1.'Your system is set to region 1. To play this DVD , set your system to region 2, 4 or 5'. - I click OK and change the region to Region 2 (UK)
2. The computer warns me that 'This is your last chance to change the region setting on your DVD. Are you sure you want to proceed?' - I click yes.
3. Then an error message pops up saying 'Unable to update region setting. Please make sure the drive contains a region 2 media and you have administration privilege'. I click OK as there is no other option.

--The problem is that I changed it before and no one else has an account on my computer so I must have administration privilege . Apparently I also have 1 change left, and I am inserting a region 2 disk. So why won't it let me change back to my real region? And how could I fix it?

Thanks

Thanks - but it isn't that I am going to be watching more foreign films or have used up all my changes. According to my computer i still have 1 change remaining - I just don't know why it won't let me make the change. I just want to be able to do what it says I ought to be able to do - I have only changed the region once!

My problem starts 1.3 of the way down the above post. From 'Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack2'...

  • littlemai Jan 26, 2009

Thank you, yes the problem is fixed now.

In answer to the clarification request:

The problem was that I still had one change left (I had changed it only once, so had one change left according to the computer), but Windows Media wouldn't let me go through with the change whenever I tried. This seems to be because the disk I was trying to play wasn't a region 2 only disk, but was a region 2,4 and 5 disk.

Ramesh's suggestion to try to play a region2 only disk proved successful.

Thanks for all your help though everyone.

The region code in computers is limited by hardware, the player and not windows controls that.
You can circumvent hardware issues altogether with Remote Selector (www.remoteselector.com).
Just download, install and follow the instructions on the web. No more worries about what region the player is set at. Boom, it's gone and you can bypass all the other messages and warnings.

Well you could go to start / settings / control panel / system / hardware / device manager / expand where it says CD Dvd Drives / Rightclick your drive then go to properties...... In the region tab you can change your region code. Just a note you can change the region code only 5 times. The last time you change will be locked to that region. You can also buy software known as Any DVD to set the code to 0 ...... so you dont need to change at all

Legally, the only way to resolve your issue is a new drive, the region code in the drive has been locked in the firmware and cannot be changed by normal means (You can search google for DVD region Code Cracks, but it is not recommended no legal)

Antipiracy laws mandated a limit to the number of times the Region code can be changed (5) and if you are going to be playing a lot of media from different regions, then get another drive and set it to one region (and mark the region on the drive) and use this for the other

I own a 5-DVD Changer with a Home Theatre System. It is an LG Model # LH-E932TB. It was working great then all of a sudden it now says ''CHECK REGIONAL CODES''. Does anyone know what to do...

Have you changed the Regional Code of the DVD changer? Changing of Regional Code of the Changer is permitted for 5 times. To view movies of different region code, some people change it. Suppose you or someone have viewed a movie of different region movie after changing the region code & now you are trying to view a DVD of your region. In this case you will have to change the region code to your region. Changing of region code is available through the setup of the Changer.

Question Can I change the region code on my player so that I can play DVD / Blu-ray disc from other regions? Region code lock out

You can only change this code 5 times before it locks out the CD ROM drive. If it's locked out, you will need a new CD ROM drive. Your best bet is to get two external CD ROM drives and set one to region 1 and the other to region 4. This way you don't have to keep buying CD ROM drives. :)

Changing the DVD Region code

New DVD-ROM drives come with a firmware level RPC-2 with hardware protection. RPC 2 drives have a 5 change limit on regions, once the counter gets to 0 your drive is permanently locked to the last region it was set to. Even if you reformat or move the drive to another system it will still be locked to the last region. There are ways to get around it, some models have resetting tools made by 3rd parties to reset the change limit back to 5 and some also have firmware patches to remove the region lock.

The first solution is free VideoLAN player: click here to download VideoLAN.

The second solution is free Remote Selector tool: click here to download Remote Selector. Launch remselec22.exe file. Click Control tab. Choose Enabled, and check all options Region Free, Disable Macrovision, Disable User Prohibition Click Start Player button, and try to play your DVD

Finally Load another firmware for your DVD drive which disables the region code protection.

Changing the region code

Hi,

You can only change the region code a few times (usually 5), so I wouldn't do it. You should leave the current player at region 1, and buy and install another DVD player and set it to region 4, then you will have 1 for each region you want.

Changing the DVD Region code

since the changes remaining is set to 0, sorry to say that you cna no longer change this to a different regional setting, unless you reinstall the OS,

chances are you have selected the region previously, or somebody else.

The world is split up into 8 DVD regions:

Region 1: U.S., Canada, U.S. Territories
Region 2: Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt)
Region 3: Southeast Asia and East Asia (including Hong Kong)
Region 4: Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean
Region 5: Eastern Europe (Former Soviet Union), Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia
Region 6: China
Region 7: Reserved
Region 8: Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.)

Old DVD-ROM drives came with a firmware level RPC-1. Software protection was used to control which region is played.

How to bypass DVD region code protection ?

As we've said, a lot of newer drives are RPC-2 drives these days. Some of these drives don't allow raw access to the drive until the drive firmware has done a regioncheck. But some RPC-2 drives DO allow raw access, so in some cases it is quite possible to use a special software to bypass the protection:

The first solution is free VideoLAN player: click here to download VideoLAN. It might take a long time to initialize DVD. So just pop the disc in your drive and try it out, while you get a coffee.

The second solution is free Remote Selector tool: click here to download Remote Selector. Launch remselec22.exe file. Click Control tab. Choose Enabled, and check all options Region Free, Disable Macrovision, Disable User Prohibition as shown below:

or you can install one of this program:

The region can only be changed five times, before its set permanently.

In WinDVD: if a DVD from a region different than the default one is tried to be played, the dialog box for changing the DVD region code should appear. If that dialog box do not appear, check the region code set in the software:
Click Start, All Programs, Intervideo Win DVD, and Intervideo Win DVD.
Right-click the Win DVD window and select Setup or Properties.
Click the Region tab and check the region code selected.
If there is a 0 in the Changes Until Permanent field, the DVD region code will not be able to be changed again.
If a number from 1 to 4 appears in the Changes Until Permanent field, add a mark in the checkbox of the desired region and click OK. The new region will be set up.

In PowerDVD: the first time you insert a DVD title, to be played on PowerDVD, a small dialogue box will appear. It will set the region code to match that of the DVD title you wish to play. After this the program will be set. However, if you have a region free DVD-ROM drive, you have the option of playing DVD titles from different regions. PowerDVD will allow you to change the region code setting up to five times, and then it will be locked on the region you have listed on your fifth and last change. At that point you will only be allowed to watch DVD titles from that region. To change the region code, from the original setting, just insert the DVD title in your DVD-ROM drive and run PowerDVD. When the software recognizes that the disc is from a different region than what was previously set, a dialogue box will appear. For this example, the Current Region is Region 1. After changing from one region to another, I will have four changes left. The program detected the disc I inserted was from Region 2, so it selected this option. Once I click OK the Current Region will be changed to Region 2 and the DVD title will play.
hope this helps dont forget to mark my solution pls
