The problem you are having with your microwave is a common one. Not heating is a problem that can be caused by three things. I'll list the most common solution first, the magnetron that actually does the heating is what is making that noise and has gone bad. It is possible for you to also have a bad high voltage diode that has opened up, solution two, or solution three is the high voltage capacitor is not working properly as well. From my experience with microwaves I am positive that it is your magnetron that is bad. If you are not do it yourselfer you'll need to take it to a repair shop to replace. However, if you know how to use a screwdriver and can unplug a couple of wires with spade terminals on them, then you can take it off yourself, find another one and replace it the same way you took it off. The magnetron sits behind the control panel of your microwave but on top. It has cooling fins on it and has 2 terminals maybe three depending and make and model that plug into it. It has 4 screws that are easy to get to that actually holds it in place. If you do not have a good local source like an electronic parts supply place then you can find the right magnetron at www.mwoparts.com. Be sure you always unplug the microwave before touching or trying to take the he cover off and then when you take the magnetron off also.Good luck and God bless.

If the microwave appears to be working normally (ie: light comes on; timer counts correcting, turntable turns) but there is no heating of the food, it could also be your high voltage fuse - normally 5kv 700mA or 0.7A. Check and if found faulty replace with same specification component.

How do I get the heat to work?

Hi Marc, there is no 'heat' per say with microwave ovens as one would find in a convection oven. Microwave ovens operate by generating electromagnetic fields (within the microwave band) that causes water molecules in the food item to vibrate/rotate creating friction/heat - within the food item as opposed to the surrounding space (this would be convection)

G.E. spacemaker microwave stopped heating, made louder than normal sound, smelled odd.

The magnetron has failed, "heats food" to repair the unit will approach the cost of a new microwave oven.

Sharp R-340H Microwave has power but does not heat food. Carousel working.

The magnetron is the likely problem, "heats food" the other two items to check is the high voltage capacitor and diode. It usually is cheaper to replace.

Microwave Won't Heat Food

My Kenmore 721.63259301 would not heat items up so I came here and saw the parts required and was just about to order them when I checked the online owners manual and found this. FULL FIVE-YEAR WARRANTY ON
THE MAGNETRON For five years from the date of purchase, if the
magnetron in this Kenmore microwave oven
fails due to a defect in material or workmanship,
Sears will repair it free of charge.
My microwave has a manufacture date of July 2009 so I will be taking it right to the closest Sears repair center for a free repair. I suggest everyone do the same.

Turns on but not heating food sounds a bit louder

Hi, this is common in most microwaves. this abnormal noise is coming from a faulty Magnetron. this device is responsible for the heating process and, it is damaged and not heating at all at this point.Simply replace the Magnetron and, this unit will start to heat once more.
