SOURCE: I cannot compress the rear brake caliper piston to install new pa

In the back the caliper pistons actually have to be turned... you can either do it with something that can fit in the two v-shaped notches, or you can buy a tool from Autozone, etc. that will fit on a 3/8" drive ratchet to turn the piston back in.

I did this myself for the first time about 4 weeks ago. Confused me until I asked an Autozone employee.

I have a 1998 Grand prix. I replaced the starter and the battery. When I go to start it I can hear the starter engaging but the engine won't turn over completely.

Sound like an internal engine part broke , like a crank shaft or pistons connecting rod. If it is a connecting rod , it is wedging against the cylinder wall or piston . I would pull all the plugs out , have someone else turn it over , and listen . You can also get a compression gauge and screw it in each plug and see if you have any compression ? You may have to rebuild it , or take it apart to see if you can rebuild it ? Call a junk yard and you maybe able to get a good used motor too . Good luck , Hope this helps!!!!!!!!

How do i change my front brakes on my 04 grand prix

1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the front wheels with a 19mm tire socket or equivalant.
3. Locate the brake caliper and remove the two retaining bolts from the caliper(they are iether a allen wrench or torx style bolt)
4. Use a prybar and pry gently between the rotoe and caliper to loosen the caliper from its postion then lift it off the bracket.
5. Remove the old pads from the caliper and using a big c clamp or calpiper compression tool and the old inner pad compress the caliper piston back in all the way.

How to Fully retract piston into caliper body using a "C" clamp

The rear brakes on the 2004 need to be compressed with a special tool available at any parts store. You need to "screw" the caliper piston in instead of pushing it in with the "C" clamp.
