I have bought a D-Link wireless G Router( DIR-300) and I cant figure how to connect it to my modem( Siemens Speedstream 4200). I am trying to set up a wireless home network. The cd that came with the router wont work in my pc. On the modem there is only 1 spare port which is a blue USB. The router came with a blue ethernet cable. I am connected with Optus ADSL through the phoneline. Can anyone help?

Same problem, Im sure it has something to do with the config of the Speedstream modem.

    I have the same problem

I have just brought a DIR-300 and cannot get it to connect to the net, I have set up the DIR-300 and even can ping it from the PC, but the ping does not reach the modem( speedstream 4200).
I have read some other pages and they say that the DIR-300 has to be set up as a bridge with the modem but none so far i have found works.
I believe it might be something to do with the PPPOE ( or something like that), i have even tried the DCHP setting, but still to no avail. Again this is OPTUS ADSL2+ i think( could be mistaken though).
Its getting close to the stage where the Wirless router is going to be taken back, Easy set up my Arse!!

Recently my D-link has lost its connectivity, oddly my Mac computer can pick up a wireless signal and access internet while any other wireless devices fail to acquire internet. I tried a cable connection...

Hello, Looks like your Mac might have connected to some other unsecured wireless network in your neighborhood. First connect any computer directly to your modem and check if you are able to go online. If the "internet" light is not lit on the router then there is no way your Mac can access internet through the wireless signals of that router. If you do not have internet connection through your modem then contact your internet service provider. If you are able to go online through your modem then perform the following steps..
1) Disconnect the power from both modem and router wait for a minute and connect the power back for modem first and after ten seconds connect the power for your router. Now once all the lights are stable check if you are able to go online through the router. 2) If the above step didn't work then you will have to reset and reconfigure your router. You will see a small reset button at the back of the router, press and hold it for 10 seconds and let go of it( while power is connected to the router) now disconnect the power from your router and connect it back after 10 seconds. Once you have done this you can reconfigure using the disk provided with the router by re-entering the ISP information. 3) Once this is done check if you have any firmware update to your router by logging on to the router vendor's website and entering your product details.
Hope this helped..!

Hi i bought the smc wireless router and i tries to connect it but i couldnt figure out how to connect it because i have a laptop and my internet is connected from my modem to my laptop but i cant seem to...

I'm unsure of the exact part number here but using the model number I checked the manual. This looks like it's just an access point which extends a current network you have. If you only have your laptop, this device and your internet modem it may not give you the wireless connectivity you're looking for. On a normal setup you would plug your modem into a router, plug your laptop into the router and set it up with all your DSL/Cable connection information as well as wireless on/off. You can then unplug from the router and continue life. with this one it's only connecting to an existing setup (another router or another wireless network) and extending it.
If you are looking for a solution to give you a router that connects to your modem and gives you wireless or adding multiple devices on a single connection I would recommend returning this and getting an all-in-one router such as this: http://homestore.cisco.com/en-us/Routers/Linksys-E1000-Wirelessn-router_stcVVproductId97826160VVcatId551966VVviewprod.htm?icid=linksys-specs-e1000-learnmore-btn&src2=linksys-specs-e1000-learnmore-btn

My company provided me wired internet using Paradyne 6381 wired modem. it works fine. I have D Link 2640 T wirelss modem + router available with me. Please advise me how do I connect available D link 2640...

Since your D-Link 2640 is a modem + router it may not work the way you intend.

You need just a wireless router without modem.

Run a small Ethernet patch cable from your Paradyne modem into the WAN port on your router, you can plug your existing Ethernet cable into one of the other LAN ports on the router, then access the router setup using the computer connected to the Ethernet cable using a browser and putting the router's IP address into the address line of your browser. It will most likely be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.

Once you have configured the Wi-Fi router you will have your wireless network. Full instructions should come with the router.

Routers are available for as little as $29.95 but expect to pay closer to $79.95 for satisfactory speed and capability.

Modem and wireless not talking

If u r inside a wireless network and internet is ok, u will able to ping both the wireless router gateway and modem gateway. If u cant ping the modem gateway, u can try connect the modem directly to your pc, and test again. U need to make sure the modem is OK, and able to connect to internet. Then only u move to check router. This is due to very often internet access having problem.

How to use this unit as a Access Point for an existing Wireless Home Network

set the second router through the web menus to a different ip address, cant have 2 devices on the same (default) 192.168.0.1 address, try 192.168.0.2 (example only) to stop data collisions
connect by cable secondary router lan port 1 to the primary router lan port 4 (any lan port to any lan port),
drag secondary router upstairs on its cable and install it wherever you want
set two routers on different channels.
set all wep settings on both routers the same.
set all pcs to 'auto channel' select
wireless adaptors in pcs will then select strongest signal at any point and transmit thru that router
