We just purchased the watch and have read through the entire manual...how does it turn on? there is nothing in the manual about turning the watch on

I suggest you may need to wait till the first signal is received by watch.
If all this doesn't work, then check the battery condition- it may be underpowered and need replacement. Eve if your watch is brand new, the battery may be few years old.
