My speakers are hooked up and are turned on, but will not work. When I try to go to the volume control it says "there are no active mixer decvices avaiable" and then it gives me directions on how to install it. When I try to install it or when a I go to the device manager or try to trouble shoot it says "device working properly". What is the resolution for this problem. Do I need new speakers? Do I just need a new sound card?

if the sound is very faint. you can check the volume properties if it is set to maximize and also check the physical volume control on the actual speaker - also Disconnect Any Headphones That May Be Connected
to the Computer - Check for and remove any headphones connected to the computer or speakers to
prevent them from muting the external speakers.Click Start, and then click Control
Panel.Double-click Sounds and Audio Devices. Click the Sounds tab. You can also try head phone if it is Crystal Clear on headphone then the problem is with the Speaker as Dell might need to replace it. :)
Make sure switch is on, try pluging it into an external MP3 player.
No sound would be coming from the speakers if nothing is playing on the computer also look at the computer volume as well as the speaker volume control.
make sure that the speakers are plugged into the GREEN circle on the back of the machine, and make sure the volume controls in windows are turned all the way up, and mute is NOT checked. If that still does not work, hook the speakers up to an ipod, walkman, boombox, or anything with an earphone jack, and see if they play. If they work, then its a pc issue.
I had the same problem: speakers worked, but clicked whenever they were on. They are actually Compaq speakers connected to a Dell computer. I solved the problem by moving the speakers about 12 inches farther away from my wireless router. Very easy!
Try going to support.dell.com and entering your Service Tag. Then click on drivers and downloads and download and install the audio driver that they currently recommend for your machine. Sounds like a driver problem and something that wasn't set properly after the computer was reset.
