Problem in reboot the server in domain

Hi,
We are having one Poweredge 2950 dell server which is a part of domain. We are using Windows 2003 server OS. Now problem is, whenever we are trying to restart the server in LAN by using a static IP, server is hanged after boot the machine in "applying computer settings" stage. When we remove the lan cable it starts successfully but some progams are not working. And we can ping other PC from the sever but from other PC (Same domain) can not ping.

Kindly provide me the solution.

    There is no IP conflict.

Though there are 2 Network Interface card one card is totally disabled and another card is having static IP address.

This sounds like a common DNS issue. You need to make sure that this server has a local DNS server like 192.168.1.1 and not an external one like 4.2.2.2.

Your server is trying to find the domain controller and with the external DNS it cannot. This is why when you remove the cable it loads correctly. it assumes that it is disconnected from the local network and it continues without the domain controller. otherwise it waits for the external dns to time out.

Perhaps there is a IP conflict?

Why not set up DHCP with IP reservations for your servers? I have no idea how big your setup is. We have a few of these servers at my work and have experienced no problems.

Also i believe this server may have 2 network interface cards, make sure you have the IP set to the correct adapter, and dont plug them both in with the same IP address.

How long have you left the server at "applying computer settings" before plulling the network cable?

How do i reboot a dell server

That would depend mostly on the server. It is recommended to initate most shut downs via the installed OS. If that isn't possible then you can simply hold the power button to power down the servers.
Hope this helps.

How to use the smart start cd to install dell poweredge 2950

Smart Start is an HP utility. Dell has a similar one called Systems Build and Update Utility (SBUU) or Systems Management Tools and Documentation (SMTD - much larger download and includes SBUU).

You should use the DVD version if possible, and if you are installing 2003, it should have SP2. If it doesn't, then you can use nLiteOS.com to integrate the Service Pack into your installation media.

Turn off machine un plug all power cables.
To access the jumpers, remove the cooling shroud by lifting the release latch and sliding the shroud towards the front of the system
Lift up the memory module airflow shroud for easy access to the jumpers
This will rest the password and then you will be able to rest the server.

The Dell 2950 Server we have cannot reboot the disc drives

The raid may be fine you need to reinstall the OS.
