I have bought kingston pen drive 8 GB..d problem is that files get corrupted...there r all sorts of different symbols instead of the actual file name...the space occupied by it also changes somehow....i tried formatting it but the problem persists.. i encountered same problem with my earlier SONY 4 GB PEN DRIVE(vaio)... please suggest some remedy..
It is possible the front set of USB connectors were mis-wired or the motherboard end was connected backwards, and thus might've damaged your flash drive & mp3 player. If you are interested in the pinout specs, look here http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml
If you've tried the flash drive & mp3 player in a known good computer, & they don't work, then this tells you they have a problem. If damage to the electronics of the devices has been done, because of a miswire, then they must either be replaced or repaired. As far as recovering data from the flash, this would be doubtful if the above is true. Look here for information related to repartitioning the flash drive. http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic17341.html
You might need to do something similiar with the mp3 player.
I don't have alot of experience with either device, but perhaps another contributor can give more accurate counsel.

After reading the description, I think you need to try updating BIOS and latest device drivers for USB. Because USB are getting power on that means there would not be any fault to from the motherboard.
So please try updating latest BIOS for your notebook.
If you can provide me the product no for your notebook and the operating system which you are using currently then I can find the one for you.
Otherwise you can also do the same.
Type in the product no. on www.hp.com. Then go to software and driver download page, select the proper OS and search in BIOS ROM pack available for your notebook.
Your drive could be corrupt. The first thing I would do however is make sure you are plugging it into a good USB port. If you are using a desktop with USB ports in the front, and are plugging the drive in there, remove it and plug it in to one of the USB ports on the back of the computer. Many times the front ones will have issues with certain USB devices. If that doesn't work, you very well may have a bad usb drive. I would try it on another computer if switching the usb port doesn't help, to see if the drive is truly not working or just a driver problem on your computer.
Goto my computer and right click, left click on properties and find device manager. Scroll down until you find universal serial bus controllers click on the + sign, right click on 'Enhanced Host Controller', right click and choose update driver, use the internet option to download updated driver, this should hopefully resolve your USB problem. If it does not update and the usb drivers and they seem fine, then the problem could be with the flash drive, try the drive in another computer to check that it is working.
your pen drive is not recognize by the usb port onyour computer, remove the pen drive from the port and insert it to another usb port on your computer, if you still having problems, restart the computer and try again on a different port.
Often it is due to electrostatic charges on usb. Unplug all USBs.Unplug PC from power cable for 10/15/ minutes. plug back computer to power outlet and restart. Plug back usb. If it still does not work , flash memory may be faulty, test it on a different computer.
Make sure you are matching the compatibility of USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 between the devices (computer and USB devices).
USB 1.1 device will work in USB 1.1 and USB 2.0, but USB 2.0 devices will not work in USB 1.1 plug in the computer.
How many USB ports do you have in the computer? Which ones have you tried other pen drives in? List the USB ratings for each device and port in the computer to further help.
Have the other USB devices been formatted with other computers? The formatting on other systems might not be compatible.
