Worked yesterday, but not today. Called customer service and they simply referred me to a local service center.

My brushes do not spin but everything looks good. Do you know the problem?

How do you find the belt? Is there a breakdown of this unit so I can see how to take it apart?
I am about ready to go buy a new one, but if I can fix this one...

my son noticed the brushes aren't spinning at all. husband took them off, we cleaned the sensor screen, can't locate the problem.

ours was purchased in 07 so out of wtty. does anyone have a schematic or repair manual to show how to dismantle it?

it worked great when new, but i won't buy another one! the brushes are SPOTLESS, so it tells me they haven't spinned in a long time.

My  brushes don't spin.  I check the filter and cleaned it as asked.  Still don't spin.  Is there a belt to check, or is there a turbine?  I need a diagram for  dismantling.  I started, but it was getting rather complicated and my memory is not that good any more.

My husband took it apart today and the impellers were gunked up with black stuff.

he used these pictures that someone else generously posted. ours was slightly different in internal design, but they are helpful regardless.

here is an exploded diagram of the 5903, 04, etc. it will help you see if any parts are missing or broken.

parts list if you need some:

it's working fine now. sucks much better too. what a difference!

guess for the $179 these things avg, they just need annual maintenance. I wouldn't pay someone to do it though.

Take apart the housing for the spin brushes, my husband fixed mine yesterday, there is no belt, on mine the gears that are powered by air had slipped, reconnect them and you should be good to go.

If your brushes don't spin check to see if the belt for the brushes is still in good shape it sounds like it might be broken

Spin brushes not turning

Most all Hoover SteamVacs rely on a turbine to create suction and spin the brushes. The brush block (removable, just clips in) will have one of the 5 or 6 brushes with a stem inserted up and in the turbine. Hoover did a poor job sealing the hole that stem goes through and water and cleaner seep up to the lower bearing on the turbine and the bearing siezes. The turbine has a gear assembly inside! It is not easy to replace the turbine, especially the first time because what needs to be removed can be a head scratcher. However goes easier the second time. The turbine can be taken apart once out and I have used light grease to free up the bearing and gears but it's only a temporary fix. Different models have different part # turbines so pay attention when ordering the part. Need a work bench environment to do this. On occasion the brush block itself can get stuck because the brushes gear mesh together and the stemed brush drives them all. They can and do bind up with junk and do wear down and bind. If you can't turn all 5 or 6 brushes by spinning with your fingers on the stem, the block itself could need replacing. The block and brushes do come apart for cleaning but be careful because they are plastic clips on both halves of cover/retainer and can break.

The brushes are not working.

We have a Max Extract 60 and when we turned it on the brushes did not work. My husband took the pieces for the brush motor apart and put it back together and then they worked fine. They must of been bound up or put together wrong. Works great now.

The scrub brushes dont spin anymore

The brushes are turning by an air driven turbine. The turbine has a pivot bushing made of steel inside of it that gets rusty because of the water that is running through it. The turbine gear will have to be replaced. You can access the turbine gear by removing the hood. You can find a genuine hoover replacement part by following the link below. Just find the model number of your Steamvac.

I have a hoover steam vac f5899-100 the brushes doesnt spin...everything else works but tha. we took the brushes apart to clean

if after you cleaned the brushes and still doesn't work. it will have to be the turbine assembly that the brushes fit into.

The Brushes stopped spinning

I clean mine with a chopstick. *shrugs* No way that we can see to take it all apart. Did you clean the filter thing right next to the brushes? hoover.com has manuals to everything they sell unless it's reaaaaaly old. :-)

Belt replacement Hoover carpet cleaner

Hoover steamvacs don't use belts. If the brushes are not turning, pull the brush block out, turn the machine on and see if the square hole where the brush block was, is turning. If not then the turbine is bad. Sometimes you can take the turbine apart and clean it out. most times I have found , replace it.

Hoover Steam Vav & Spin Scrub #F5899-100

Sorry it is not belt driven. There is a turbine that drives the brush. You have to remove the top cover to get to it. But if the motor smells hot, then you may have a problem with it also.

Brushes won't spin

open unit's bottem cover and look for the following: - Motor works - Belt which transfer motor's movment to the brushes, in place and not broken (most frequent phenomenon). - No mess on brushes axis which prevent their free movement. Good luck
