I cant delete the message thread.. maybe because there are too many messages in the thread... but everytime i try 2 delete it. it jus freeze and ask me 2 wait or foreclose.... very confusin... ((need help))
Ya....its a known issue that should be resolved when cupcake software is released.....
you WILL encounter this force close error message everytime to attepmt to delete messages if you have over 100 messages in the inbox....
just select menu > delete threads and select the force close error when it pops up. you should be okay.....just keep doing that till cupcake is out. if that doesnt help, youll need to have the phone reset. try going to MENU > SETTINGS > SD CARD AND PHONE STORAGE > RESET PHONE > ERASE EVERYTHING.
**as long as you remember you gmail username and password, all of your contacts and calander apps will be restored on the handheld. if you do not remember them, you will loose EVERYTHING if you complete this reset.**
good luck :)
I have had the same issue with my G1. Great Phone but does lack in very important technical areas such as battery life and sms deletion.
To solve the deletion problem with the G1. Very simple. The G1 is basically a minature computer. Has an OS system that runs Processes. In order to delete a long SMS thread it needs priority on the deletion process. If you have a time out for your screen it causes that deletion process to time out.
Solution: Turn your time out screen under settings, display to never time out. Just then start deleting the larger threads one by one.
I had the same problem as all of you, I like that i can keep multiple messages without having to delete them, then I ran across the deleting problem. Every time I tried to delete a large thread I was impatient and wanted the process to be quick, so i would press another button and i noticed that this would cause the crash. So I had to factory reset my phone the first time, because I am an impatient person and I don't like waiting. I noticed that the phone will erase large threads if u give it time, a thread of about 250msgs took around 2 minutes to delete, a thread of 600msgs took around 4-5 minutes. That's a lot of waiting. I also changed the display timeout settings to never timeout, only when i want to delete messages.
So go ahead try it,
Change your display timeout settings to NEVER TIMEOUT
Go to thread, delete the tread, and do not press any other key on ur phone within reasonable amount of time, hopefully this works for u like it worked for me!!
U CAN GO TO THE G1 MSG SCREEN AND TOUCH MENU THEN TOUCH DELETE THREADS AND THEY ALL WILL DELETE... TRY THAT!

i have the same EXACT problem. this is very annoying.. this phone does have a lot of cool features, but this force close bs is getting old. im sure the reason i cant delete any of my threads must be because i have way more msgs saved than i should..so what now? how am i supposed to get rid of them? i have no other msg problems (knock on wood) the phone just freezes when i try to delete them. LAME.
I have 3,300 texts in one thread! I want to delete the whole thread or/and all of my threads. My phone is ridiculously slow because of the super long threads.Â
help?
I am having the same problem. I have 4,032 texts on one thread.....(I was keeping them for sentimental value!) So I downloaded the Txt extract but I am unable to delete the thread. I know you can delete messages one by one, but I don't really want to sit there for hours deleting 4,000 texts!
Moneytree, we know... The issue is that the deletion process seems to time out and ask to Force Close or Wait. As a software developer, I don't think the software should have to do that. There should be a better way to handle deleting messages. Possibly giving the deletion process near-top priority on the queue in the code that they've written to handle this operation.
SAME THING GOING ON HEREÂ
