I have a coleman powermate 6250 it wont speed up when something is plugged into it
Turning off the auto idle is not fixing the problem. The auto idle is a mechanism that allow the engine to run at lower rpms when no load is applied to generator to save on fuel consumption and reduce engine damage. When the switch is on the unit should work like I described above. If the swich is off the unit should remain at 60-62 hz either with or without load. There are many factors that are involved in this system that all have to be working correctly in order for it to work. If you have a Tecumseh engine on your Coleman genset it is junk and will never work properly without constant adjustment to the carb and governor, and you will need a resistive load bank to adjust it properly. Shut the auto ible switch off if you have a Tecumseh engine and forget about it. To fix this problem you need to understand electronics, electricity, and small engine fairly well. If you do I can work you through the trouble shooting process. So let know.
If it is suppose to speed up there should be a switch that says auto idle. Just turn that off and this will cure your problems
