When i turn on my oven it smells like gas

I turned on my oven to preheat last night and for the first time i could smell a strong gas odor. i gave it a few minutes thinking it would go away, but it got worse, so i turned it off and decided not to use it. it looked as if it was working properly the oven burners all looked like they were working. and all my range burners work.

  • Replace the oven ignitor its the electronic pilot next to the oven burner its not longer getting hot enough to ignite the gas, the stove can blow up if not change .

SOURCE: Smelling Gas and Soot in Oven

well its pretty normal u will smell gas when its preheating but if u think its not then u can pull the oven out and check the gas line connection is tight if it is then u can also get a spray bottle of soapy water and spray the whole line and if u see alot of bubbles then there is ur leak and for the soot problem u can use the clean cycle which all it does is reach a very high temp and pretty much burns everything like crumbs to a crisp and all u have to do is basically wipe it out with a damp cloth and maybe a mild soap and sponge good luck

SOURCE: oven will not light-broiler works

The problem is usually the igniter not reaching the correct amp draw .When the igniter does not reach the correct amp draw it may allow the gas valve to partially open or not open at all. The igniters are inexpensive and easy to replace. There is a video at http://appliancehelponline.com/gasoventroubleshootvideo.html this will walk you thru the correct procedure for performing this test. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

Strong gas odor only when oven is in operation?

If you're talking about the acrid smell immediately after starting the oven, that's aldehyde gas, a byproduct of cold gas combustion where the flame contacts the cold metal oven surfaces. That smell should disappear within the first minute or two, and it's entirely normal for a gas oven. If you're talking instead about the smell of fuel gas, then your burner may need to be adjusted; it may be running much too "rich".

Maytag gas oven takes a long time heat and smells of gas.

Important---if you smell gas--I'd be very very careful---could be your control valve or lines to it are malfunctioning or leaking. You might have to call in an expert repair person. How old is the oven? Some preliminary checks you might make are: Do you have a pilot lite or preheaters on the unit? If a pilot lite, make sure it is lit. An unlit pilot lite could sometimes give the smell of gas if malfunctioning. If so, there is is a procedure for lighting the pilot lite--check your user or installation manual. If you have pre-heaters make sure they are lighting up. Normally you have one for the top broiler burner, and one for the bottom oven burner. Check your preheater(s) by selecting either broiler or oven and visually checking to see if they are warming up. After 15 seconds or so, they should be turning bright red. You will see some light coming from them. Check one pre-burner at a time. If they do not come on quickly, shut off the associated valve. Again, be very, very careful with any buildup of gas. It could cause an explosion. At the least it could make you sick.

When I turned on my frigidaire oven today I smelled a strong odor of gas, I never smelled that before. The oven is about 6 years old.

Have it checked immediately for a leaking gas line in your oven. The situation is very dangerous, gas accu-
mulation can explode and cause fire. Get is touch
for a technician immediately.

Gas smell coming from oven during preheat. once oven is warmed up, smell goes away. I have a Frigidaire FGF366EBC S/N VF6289284.What would cause this?

Typically, all gas operated appliances will get a "gas smell" from time to time. What you're really smelling is the odorant (rotten egg smell) that is added into both propane and natural gas, as these gases have no smell by themselves.

The smell will vary from normal to very strong as the "receipe" for how much ordorant is added into either your propane tanks or the gas supplied to your home. Typically, when tanks start getting low, the smell is more concentrated, while with piped natural gas, the smell can be very strong at different times, based on how and when the gas company adds odorant into the main supply lines.

Usually when a gas appliance is first turned on, the smell can be rather strong, until the gas ignites. So long as your oven is lighting properly, there is nothing to worry about.

However, if you're hearing a rather loud "whoosh" sound as the oven lights, it could be that your ignitor is getting weak and might need to be replaced. If you've got a weak ignitor, it could be allowing a little bit too much gas to build up in the oven compartment before it lights, hence the reason you're smelling the gas.

You can check for a weak ignitor by simply watching the oven when you start it, if the gas lights quickly, once the ignitor is glowing brightly and you've heard the "click" of the gas valve opening (in the oven), then everything is fine.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

KitchenAid gas range superba not reaching/registering right temp.

Always preheat your oven and let it cycle at least 2 times. Your unit may show 350 but the manufactures know that it is not 350. When it registers preheated, it really means that it is at an acceptable temperature to start cooking. If you think that it may not be calibrated correctly, your owner's manual will have instructions on how to recalibrate your oven. You will be able to raise or lower the temperature by + 25 degrees or - 25 degrees. As far as the gas smell, you will from time to time smell a gas smell with a gas oven especially if you are right at it when it ignites. If you are smelling gas when it is not in use then you should be extremely concerned.

Gas Odor coming from oven

The reason you can't smell it when the oven is on is because the gas is being ignited. DO NOT USE YOUR STOVE until you get this fixed by a gas fitter. You have a gas leak, which is either a loose fitting or faulty valve or line.

Call your appliance dealer IMMEDIATELY or you could have an explosion!!!!
