When i connect the G1 to any sort of charger (even in a cradle) it says that it is charging but it doesnt actually charge. If i monitor the %charge it goes down instead of up.. ive tried new batteries n that doesnt work.
ALso when i connect it to my laptop it again says charging but my computer freezes when tryin to open the SDcard in my computer. so im guesing that a pin is not making proper contact in the usb socket on the phone?

Blame it on weather maybe, I have this problem often. I found that if you don't try and charge it ALL the time, it may work better. I have even created a cradle to keep it from moving while charging. The car chargers have this problem more. Let me know if this helps.

Here's where to get hold of solutions to this common problem.
it's most likely cos
1. you don't have drivers for the usb
2. You haven't enabled usb connectivity Make sure USB Debugging is turned on. On the G1 click the Menu button and go to Settings > Applications > Development and check USB Debugging if it isn't already.
3. If everything fails, you may need to check your cable to see if it's still okay. borrow another one or buy cheaply from a reputable seller on ebay.

Your charging port is probably bad. It is a common issue. You can take it into an electronics shop and they could fix it by sending it to the manufacturer, but it might cost more than a new phone like the HTC incredible
There is a small hole on the bottom of the g1 where you charge it. Something small like a paper clip or something can fit inside and that will reset the phone to factory settings. Not sure if it will turn it on though...
try to use another charger for you to know if your charger is still working.if still doesn't charge your phone is the problem......the cause of it may be a cold solder charge IC of your phone
Thats a tought porblem. You could find a old phone that uses the same battery and use the charger port of the old phone to charge your battery. A call to your cell provider may help finding what phone also uses your type of battery.Old phones can be bought on ebay or craigs list for cheep. Find your battery model number and google " phones that use _ _ _ _ _ battery. good luck.
I had this issue and I thought it was dirt or something underneath the button. I took the phone apart and found the problem. Turns out it was dust or built up dried condensation on the motherboard where the ribbon cable that connects the buttons. Look for the youtube video on how to take apart the phone and it's the connection on the bottom of the phone to the right. and just use some alcohol and q-tips to clean the connections.
take the batteries out and put it back in again and try charging
check in diff power sockets
press the end of the charging cables with little amount of pressure and have a check
try to connect via the usb cable to the computer and check if it charges, if works the charger is faulty
if still did not work then it will be firmware problem with of phone
