I recommend renting instead of buying if you are just starting
out. Surfboards can be expensive and you
want to make sure that you are into the sport before you invest all that
money. As a beginner, you should use a
long board. This is because they are
very buoyant, allow for very easy paddling and wave catching and they are
generally easier to maneuver on the water.
The only issue is that they are tough to maneuver on land because they
are a full eight and a half feet long. The best boards for beginners are wide, thick
and light.
