I have a Kenmore series 70 top load washer that, until recently, would stop when I lifted the lid during the wash cycle ... the aggitator would stop, allowing you to throw in more clothes safetly without getting splashed. Now when I lift the lid the aggitator keeps going. i know the lid switch is working because it stills stops the machine when I lift the lid during the spin cycle. The local service guy looked at the schematic, followed the cyce through the schematic, and told me he didn't think lifting the lid should make any difference during the wash cycle (i.e. he didn't think it was designed to stop aggitating). I'm certain that it used to stop. Can someone confirm that I am not imagining this "lift lid - stop behaviour" and advise how to fix the problem. That is, how can I make it so the aggitator stops when i lift the lid duriing wash cycle? Thanks.
PJ.
I have a Series 80 and when I lift the lid it does not stop aggitating when in wash mode. When I lift the lid it does stop spinning when in rinse mode. As designed.
To stop wash-mode aggitation at lid-lift, using the existing lid switch and other electrical components, is not easy and not recommended. I can think of a way to do it (triple-pole lid switch) but I will not detail the idea .. for safety concerns.
To stop aggitation, simply use the main settings dial control. You'll save money and possibly prevent a fire hazard!
