The only thing that might cause something like that is a build up of static. You can buy anti-static products for records and turntables. I tend to use an anti-static spray which also cleans the records.

SOURCE: Tone arm won't drop

This is a tough one. There is usually a series of gears that function in unison to make all the magic happens. These gears are usually set in motion by a smaller belt located inside the unit. If this belt has come off or is damaged, your unit will not work. Or, if the gears have cracked, or dried up, same issue.

Suggest taking it to a service center for repair.

SOURCE: tone arm comes out and touches record, then goes back to cradle

See what kind of arm position sensing elements are used in your turntable (micro switches, optics or possibly other) and check if they work correctly - sometimes a microswitch can be damaged or have oxydized internal contacts or a badly soldered / broken wire and it will not function properly, causing the unit to stop automatically, the same might happen if the sensor is of optical type and there is some dust or broken wires or if the emmiter or sensor is damaged. Also, it could be a problem with the part that activates the switch / optics, it might be displaced or damaged.

If all sensors / switches seem to work well, then check the section which has wires going to those sensors / switches, it's the next probable location of the fault (it might be an electronic controller so there could be damage to some components, broken wires, dirty connectors or bad solder contacts).

It could as well be something else in the mechanisms, wiring or electronics, i just suggested a few things that might cause the malfunction you described.

Hope you can get it fixed.

regards

SOURCE: My tone arm has suddenly

Generally the cause is one of 3 things. 1 Damage to the stylus or dirt. 2 Lack of pressure to the stylus. 3 Anti-skate control set to low.
First check the stylus you should feel it sticking in you finger a bit. 2 Has the weight on the end of the arm become lose? Adjust for the correct tracking weight of the cartridge. 3 Check the manual for what the anti-skate control should be set to.

Turntable arm not moving across record?

Try, without any record on the table, if you can move the are, to the centre of the table. If you feel anything that is holding the arm, try to find out what it could be. Never use force. Also look inside if you can't find a clear obstruction on the top of the table. If you should find anything, don't bent, or don't break anything. Let a technical skilled person look why the obstruction is there and where the "thing" should be so the aren can move free. Perhaps you ned the obstruction for something only a few centimetres to the left or the right.

Turntable wont play jvc Al-E45.

Hi guys, I have this exact problem. If I manually rotate the platter and engage auto return, it spins perfectly. Then when I try to play a record it fails. This lasts from minutes to hours, then fixes itself. Did anyone ever diagnose/fix this problem?

I have a JVC turntable and an old Sansui reciever. Last night I was playing a record, and it stopped playing out of one speaker, and makes a loud buzzing noise. However, when I push the Mono button

You should check the connections to the turntable, it sounds like it might be feedback hum, caused by a wire touching or something like that. Don't forget to check the connections to the cartridge too.

2 things, make sure the back arm weight is adjusted correctly,, allowing enough pressure to be placed on the record, if that doesn't help, you have a chip in the needle thats not visible to the naked eye,

Need to record from turntables to cassette deck.

Bypass the reciever. Just mixer to tape deck. You will get a better recording anyways!
