5y CE code on frigidaire refrigerator water/ice dispenser

5Y CE or SY CE displayed on Iceland water dispenser panel. Water and ice do not dispense, touch controls do not respond. Internal refrigerator light does not illuminate. Bottom Freezer light does illuminate.

We got the same error code, either 5y CE or SY CE. The fridge was only 14 months old when it happened. It happened when we moved the fridge to the garage. We unplugged it for a couple hours and the code wouldn't go away. Two service men said it was a communication error at the electronic boards and was a $1,000.00 fix. We concidered the fridge junk and left it unplugged. Just for the heck of it we plugged it in after 48 hours and the code was gone. The fridge was working an cooled all the way down. Talking to family they had problems with commercial equipment and was told by their service men to leave it for 48 to allow the oils to settle to the sensor level same with this fridge. It's still working with no problem for two weeks.

Dear Sue,

  • SY CE Error Codes is a very common issue : the display board isn't communicating with the main PCB.
  • Unfortunately, there is no way to test which board is causing the problem. That's why this error can be costly.
  • Try to just unplug the refrigerator for 15 minutes and plug it back in to see if the error goes away.
  • If the issue doesn't go away, then you'll need to replace one or two boards.
  • Usually the Main Control Board under the refrigerator behind the kick panel is the part that tends to fail.
  • If you Change the Main Board, it does not work; you gonna have to replace the Display Board.
  • Try buying these board at an online store that accept Returns without conditions up to a year. Go online and put the boards number into any major search engine. Put the # one by one. You will find many sellers. Carefully pick one and do you homework
Good luck and keep me posted please,
JP

SOURCE: Frigidaire FRS26ZSH -ice & water dispenser panel lost power

I think you will need to unplug the pin plug under the cover at top or bottom hinge. Check the voltage and if OK leave unplugged until you can remove the dispenser and I will try to help you from the power source. Sounds like a short in the board and related to the light socket. The fuse only stopped the short from doing further damage, You may need to locate the short before replacing the fuse or board. I have looked over the wiring diagram. If you find the short without my help just be sure to replace the fuse with the correct size. The only things are the chute heater or something in that area of the board went to ground. Do you have a voltage meter? Contact me later when ready, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: ice/water dispenser control panel

@ Scootertramp

You tell us about this board or that board but never tell us where to located or get at these boards. Would you please clarify that?

My ice and water started dispensing sporadically, though the lights were working fine. After I removed the kick board at the bottom, cleaned out the little connector and put it back together, nothing on the door works. All else works fine.

SOURCE: in door water dispenser isn't dispensing water.

you did not say which brand, how old, or the model. But if your refrigerator is cooling properly..check the water resevoir behind the crisper drawers. It may be frozen up. I have seen this many times. You also have to check both soleniods on the water valve ( supply ) and the filter valve, if yours has a filter valve. I can't tell without model and make etc.

SOURCE: Maytag Ice20 refrigerator

Thanks, Solution #3, for the phone number ((800) 688-9900)! We, too, have the Ice2O refrigerator, and the HV Board started the disco light show last night. Followed instructions above to disable it, which temporarily solved the problem. Was on the phone with Maytag (Whirlpool?) this AM, and their initial response was that they wouldn't cover anything since we are out of warranty. I had to be extremely firm with my expectation that all parts and labor would be covered. Sent the rep back to her supervisor several times until they agreed to cover both. If you find yourself in a similar situation, don't give up until everything is covered. This is a design issue that should NOT be impacted by an expired warranty!

Have an error code of 5Y for freezer and CE for refrigerator. What's going on?

This issue, and potential explanations/solutions has shown up on prior Fixya before ... if your appliance is a Frigidaire/Iceland (you had not indicated).
The challenge after reading the prior post is that someone had success with just unplugging the unit and waiting for at least a day ... then replugging and the problem went away. Other solution is very costly ... having to replace a circuit board(s).
I tried posting the link ... but for some reason it would not work....so search the Fixya site for the 5Y CE error code and it should pop up
Good luck with your troubleshooting

Code on door of French door reads error message 5y ce. sounds like it is still running but no light inside or ice maker not working.

Thank you for your post, Carol!

I understand that your Frigidaire refrigerator is displaying an error code of "5Y CE". However it appears that "5Y CE" is an invalid error code. I have noticed the code of "SY CE" and that means there is a communication error at power up. I would recommend performing a reset on your refrigerator and you can do that by unplugging the power cord for at least ten minutes. If that does not correct your issue it could be possible that there is an issue with your main control board, wiring harness, or user interface board. I would then suggest having a professional technician out to perform a proper diagnosis and repair. This will help you avoid any unnecessary part purchases. Hopefully this is helpful. -Matt

WHEN IT DISPLAYS 5Y CE WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

The SY CE error indicates that the user interface (key #2) and the main control board (key #38) are not communicating properly. You can check the wiring. Unplug the refrigerator and gently pry the the dispenser away from the refrigerator. (Use a putty knife and work around the edge of the dispenser.) Check that the connections are clean and tight. Check the connection under the hinge cover, as well.

If the wiring doesn't have any damage, one of the above boards needs to be replaced. Additional testing will be needed. If you add a comment with the model of your Frigidaire, I may be able to provide information about the parts.

I hope this helps.

I have a Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator model no, FGHS2679KE0 on the temperature control panel the display reads 5Y CE and the alarm is on what does this mean

Hey friend, thank you for your inquiry!

Based off the information you have provided your Frigidaire refrigerator is displaying "5Y CE". I have researched that code and believe it is an error code of "SY CE" which means a communication error after power up. I would recommend resetting your refrigerator and you can do that by disconnecting power from your appliance for ten minutes.

If that does not help correct the issue it could be a faulty main control board or user interface board. I would consult with a technician to come out and provide an accurate diagnosis. I hope this information is helpful. -Matt

My side by side on the temp door reads 5y CE. I unplug and replug and it is ok for awhile

Thank you for your question, Friend.

Typically error code SY CE, is commonly referred to an issue between the main control board and the user interface (the control on the Freezer door). A tech would typically check the communication wiring wires between both parts to determine the cause of the error code. If the wiring is correct, then more than likely you are looking at a faulty main control board or user interface. Regrettably, this is not a simple DIY job. I would highly recommend reaching out to an expert technician to ensure the appropriate replacement part is ordered and is installed correctly to prevent future issues. I hope this information helps to some degree - thanks for your question, and please do not hesitate to reconnect. - Z

What does the error code 5y EF mean on my Frigidaire refrigerator

Good Morning Friend,

I understand you are receiving an "SY EF" code on your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FRS3R5EMB. The "SY EF" code stands for system error with the evaporator fan. This possibly means that there is something going on with your evaporator fan or it could possibly be a false error code. . I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully.

-Best Regards-

What is code 5y and ef

Hi M - I am happy to assist you! Error codes SY/EF is commonly refer to a failure with the evaporator fan circuit. Let's try resetting the refrigerator by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker to the off position. It is important to wait roughly ten minutes and then turn the unit back on. If resetting the power does not correct the issue, then more than likely there is a potential wiring failure between the main control board and evaporator fan. In this regard, I would personally suggest to reaching out to a repair tech to further evaluate and repair you appliance. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reconnect.

Lcd reqds 5y ce

Hi John Dirksen- Could the error code possibly be SY CE? If so, it typically means that the unit has detected a communication error at power up. A professional will need to check the wiring between the main control board and user interface. Depending on the diagnoses from the professional either part may need replacing.

What does "Sy EF" mean on dispenser led?

Error Code SY EF is the System Evaporator Fault.
This usually means there is NOT enough air flow over the sensor, this can mean a faulty sensor, or fan.
Above is the latest service sheet to do with your machine, you need to check this.

Hope this helps (remember to rate and commnent this)..
