Are there any buttons or sensors on the inside you can maybe rig to trick it into thinking it is closed?

Maybe the little sensor or pin that sticks up and is pushed in when you close the lid is broken and the software doesn't realize the lid has been closed.

Perhaps there is a switch that detects the lid is closed that is not getting closed when the lid closes...perhaps broken. If that is the case, you can just tape it closed or get a new part that makescloses it properly. Could be a bad motor winding for the high speed turn.
