Top mounted freezer on refrigerator not working

We keep a 2 year old Frigidaire refrigerator with a top mounted freezer in our garage for extras. Just noticed today that everything in the freezer had thawed out and the freezer was not working. Outside temperatures were below freezing here last week. What can be the problem and what can we doto fix it?

Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.

Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.

I have a Frigidaire freezer that is about 5 years old. I get ice build up inside the top of the door. The door appears to be closed.

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

1.) Due you have the freezer in your garage? Freezers and refrigerators are not designed for the drastic temperature change through the seasons. If you had a service contract, your contract would be canceled.

2.) If you can run a piece of paper between the top door gasket and the freezer body you do not have a tight seal. Repair - Recondition the gasket. Wet the door gasket with water, with a hairy dryer heat the gasket while genteelly pulling the gasket out to expand with a spatula.

3.) If the gasket is good, then you are getting moisture either thru the top front of the unit or the top of the door.
a.) Inspect the liner where the ice build-up is. Are there cracks? Repair - Seal cracks with a good silicone adhesive.
b.) Inspect the upper door section and the front top of the freezer for possible leaks in the joints. Here again seal with adhesive.
c.) If the top of the door is expanded, then you have moisture in the door and need to replace the door. You will never get the moisture out of the insulating material.

I have a Frigidaire refrigerator with a top mount freezer, no ice maker. I have noticed that in really cold weather, the unit becomes less efficient, and in extreme cases, stuff in the freezer begins to...

Hi,
When it gets very cold the gas (freon) in the refrigeration system shrinks....because the properties that make cold also work against you in this case...when the gas shrinks in volume it then does not work properly anymore...the hot gas does not turn back into a liquid but stays as a gas and because of that it does not cool when going through the expansion device...ie. cap tube or expansion valve. If you were to keep it in the cold all the time you could add a bit of charge to make it work, but then if you move it to warm or the weather warms... now you are over charged... just one of those "no win" deals...
They don't make these things to run in extreme environmental changes..they like it a consistent temp. all the time...

Good day,
Yes. Domestic appliances will not work properly below approx 55 degrees.
The freezer suffers most simply because the machine runs rarely at 55 degrees and degrades as the temp goes lower.
They are designed to balance properly when in an environment where people live. Ideally 70 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
The machine is not broken.
Moving it inside, is the only solution.

Frigidaire LFFH2067DW3

Roger ,
If the problem started prior to July 2008 and you had service document it!
call Frigidaire and ask for a supervisor!
Tell them that you want it replaced or you will not buy the, Frigidaire Pro stainless steel kitchen that you planned to get in 2 months when you remodel you kitchen!
They call it a PUSH PULL!
They contact me or some other dealer and pay them replace it for you and it includes all charges that they pay to the dealer!
0 dollars for you! I do this often!
I KNOW THIS WILL WORK!

Freezer Problem

If it started to cool again the compressor was running. Check the condenser and make sure it is clean. Provide as much air movement through the garage as possible . 100 degrees is a high temperature to be operating a refrigerator in.

Frigidaire freezer, only 2 bottom slelfs freeze

If your freezer is six years old the compressor warranty is also over. Sounds as though the system has lost its refrigerant charge. A refrigerant leak in these smaller units is difficult to locate and somewhat expensive to repair. Your choice.
