The dehumidifier turns on then shuts off over and over. Is there anything that I can do to make it keep running?

Could be the tempurature of the room you have it in. Make sure it is not operating in a room below 65 degrees F or 18 C

Hate to tell you, but it may be a goner. Many units have a rectangular air filter that may be clogged, but I would still expect to see some moisture removal. Without exact model I'll have to be general,.... remove cover (front or back, depends on model) to see cooling coils. If the compressor is running, these coils should be wet or may have a light frost on them for a time. Not = refrigerant leak. (not economical to repair) If you see one small area of ice,... it's also a goner. If the compressor does not run you could have a bad compressor, a bad defrost control, or a bad control / humidistat. Other than the filter or possibly a fan motor, these unit are rarely economical to repair.

could be dirt coils or low freon either way needs to be checked

Take cover off. First check the fuse on the circuit board. If it's blown replace it. That should get the motor running, the motor might be or is going out. If the motor is bad you'll have to replace the motor. If the fuse is good and the motor is good, unhook the wires on circuit board that go to the humidity control switch. If the unit comes on with the humidity control switch unhooked, you'll have to replace the humidity control switch. Sears has them for about $11.50. Hope this helps.

This must be done by an EPA certified technician.

Same occurrence of on for a short time then off, over and over. Have found that the unit fan is not functioning.
