Red status light, ? color wheel.

Intermittent problem. At power-up, can hear a soft high-pitched whine for several seconds .. one or two times. Usually, audio (only) will come on. Then steady red status light. Will then be fine for days. Power plug and/or "system" resets seem to have little effect. Now out of warranty. Also, how do I bring up "error codes" for this beast. I've changed the lamp once myself. Thanks

SOURCE: My WD-52525 will not produce

Hi,
Steady red lamp light indicates lamp did not turn On and we need to narrow down the reason, there is error code operational check procedure, please follow below info (taken from related service manual) to get error code and let me know to diagnose possible cause of problem in tv.

Error Code Operational Check
Note: The TV must be in "Shut Down" and not manually switched Off, to perform the Error Code Operational Check, let lamp light lit.

Press the front panel "DEVICE" and "MENU" buttons at the same time, and hold for 5 seconds to
activate the Error Code Operational Check. The LED will then flash denoting a two digit Code.
Note: The front panel buttons must be used, NOT those on the Remote Control.

• The number of flashes indicates the value of the MSD (tens digit) of the Error Code.
• The flashing then pauses for approximately 1/2 second.
• The LED then flashes indicating the value of the LSD (ones digit) of the Error Code.
Example: If the Error Code is "32", the LED will flash three times, pause, and then flash two times.
• The Error Code is repeated a total of 5 times.

Post here your error code finding to provide you more info.
Thanks.

SOURCE: My mit wd52525 is dead. Once

Hi,
Lets access the "Error Code Operational Check" to determine where the fault came from.
Note: The TV must be in "Shut Down" and not manually switched Off, to perform the Error Code Operational Check. When the TV is switched Off, the code automatically resets to "12" No Error.
Press the front panel "DEVICE" and "MENU" buttons at the same time, and hold for 5 seconds to activate the Error Code Operational Check.

Let me know the error code to assist you further.

That could be either the color wheel or one of the fans. try listening to which area of the set its coming from.

I would suggest two things you need to examine :

First remove and examine the lamp to make sure it is not shattered or fractured.

Second examine the color wheel that faces the lamp (see attached photo) and if you had a fan like sound or high pitched whine before that points to the color wheel.

The color wheel is a do it your self replacement (I can help) and takes less than a hour.

Let me know what you have tried and if the lamp or color wheel are intact.

HL-R6768W not turning on. High pitch spin sound. Bad color wheel?

The high-pitched whine is definitely the color wheel.  The early color wheels had problems and many had to be replaced.  As part of the turn-on process, the TV checks for light and then checks for color wheel sync.  If the bearings are wearing out/dried out, it could cause issues with getting the proper color wheel sync, causing the set to not pass the turn on sequence.
Check Sears or partstore.com for a color wheel.  I like sears for experimental replacements since they allow easy returns.
BTW, mine is an early 61".  My color wheel was replaced when I had to replace my Light Engine.  My in-laws 50" was an early one and theirs went out within 2 years.

The colorwheel is your problem. To confirm this, unplug the tv, then listen thru the air vents in the back as you plug the tv in. You will probably hear a ticking sound. If you do, that is the colrwheel. If the colrwheel is working, youwill be able to hear it "spin up". It will be a sudden high pitch whine. Let me know if I can be of further assistance

High pitched whine when the motor starts

Had the same problem. It quit within about 5 seconds after turning the TV off. Replaced the color wheel and the whine is gone. The picture also looks brighter, which may be due to dusting the projection lens with lens-cleaning compressed air (from a can). The color wheel was about $100 from Samsung parts and it took less than 3 hours to replace. See http://www.jangro.com/a/2006/07/24/samsung-dlp-replace-color-wheel/ for good info, and be sure to read the cautions.

Will not power up

your problem is in flyback or high voltage section failure.

  • check horizontal output transistor
  • check fly back transformer.
  • check for supply to horizontal section as high voltage from power supply may create such problem
  • as this failure is due high voltage section so it is better to take skilled technician help.
  • good luck.

3 blinking lights and no picture

The whine or squealing you hear is either the color wheel or fan. To determine which, when the noise is heard from the set, turn it off and listen carefully. If squealing stops immediately then Tthe fault is the color wheel, not the fan. And sounds like that are generally the color wheel. A new color wheel is Samsung p/n# BP96-00250A for this model. Vance Baldwin carries them for $97.20 plus shipping. https://www.vancebaldwin.com Logon as guest, select parts and copy past the above part number in without any dashes. Good luck... Bill
