The water dispenser in the freezer door of our GE side-by-side refrigerator won't turn off. The problem originally occurred a few months ago, but subsided after a day or two. Now, the dispenser drips constantly at a very fast rate. I have had to shut off the water supply to the water/ice dispenser to keep from mopping up the mess every hour. Before it began running constantly, the water was dispensing very slowly. This also was a recurring problem. Now it won't cut off at all. One note - the freezer door was replaced about 6 months ago as part of a class-action suit against GE. Apparently, many others were having trouble with these refrigerators. Ours was originally replaced because the ice chute kept getting clogged with ice chips that would melt and refreeze. I'd trade my current problem for that one, if I could. Any/all suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
Stix: Check behind the dispenser handle the switch or button which is responsible to activate the mechanism of water dispensing. If the switch or button is covered with a reubber you must remove the rubber cap or whatever cover it has. If you have mineral oil or somekind of greasy stuff (vaseline or something similar) lubricate the switch or button. Open the freezer door and activate and deactivate the dispenser several times to lubricate the whole mechanism. SithPitt

I have a very similar problem - the water dispenser won't shut off. For a while, I could tap the plunger and the water would stop, but then that would no longer work. Mine is just a shaft attached to the cradle that goes into the door and I can't see anything to lubricate. I have a GE TFX27ILN refrigerator. There is what looks like an access panel on the back of the freezer door. It looks like it may just pry off, and I tried, but was afraid it would break. How do I get access to the back of the dispenser unit? Do I have to take the entire back of the freezer door off, or how do I get the access panel off without breaking it? Or, is the problem more likely to be in the water line valve on the back of the refrigerator where the supply line is attached?
I have a similar problem. I have a GE TFX27ILN refrigerator. The water dispenser would occasionally keep running, but I could tap the cradle and it would shut off. Finally, tapping it would not work and it would just keep running. I had to shut the water supply off. There is no place on mine to externally lubricate the switch (just a shaft that goes into the door). Same problem. Water won't turn off.
I have the same problem but it is a Sears Kenmore refrigerator. Cleaned everything I can see and sprayed with WD40 but NO LUCK stopping it.
