After having a problem with my own Seagate ED, I search the internet for the fix. I can't find one
I have been researching the problems that so many are having with the Seagate External Harddrives - especially the Free Agent 500gb.
Seagate needs to "make good" on these drives other than simple replacement. Too many have lost too much !!!
I think a Class Action lawsuit would incline them to provides data recovery for all of the bad drives they are selling !! Whose intrested??
DO NOT buy a Seagate freeagent drive under any condition if it comes as a gift return it or re-gift to some one you don't like. Like so many others my 500GB external drive just quit working. Has only been plugged in about 6 times and then back into a cabinet to keep safe. In 10 years between 2 workstations 3 laptops and 4 external drives. The only drives that have ever gone bad are the Seagates and newer Maxators. I still have 4 Western digital drives that still work and get used in an external case for back up. They have never failed. Seagate should be responsible for data time and mental anguish.
THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE, just like that! without notice, my 500gb freeagent desktop seagete STOPPED working, this drive have been working for two years now permanently on the computer, all my datas lost, am in great confusion. I opened the casing and transfered the HDD, it's completely dead. l have checked the local market to see if l can get technical board for replacement, non is compatible with the 500gb. Oh seagates help your customers. we need immediate solutions.
My Seagate Freeagent 500 GB has stopped working since yesterday , suddenly out of blue. I have tried every trick in the book but to no avail. I stand to lose a lot ! Anyone out there who can help on this ?

I have the same. Just buzzes in short bursts.
Only had it for couple of months.
Frustrated
after about a year it just lost power and will not light nor spin. the power circuit has failed
Mine just stopped working one day. It won't power up at all.
I have the same problem, the drive stopped working and I had a seagate tech advised me to just open up the drive and put inside my machine. I had to buy a dell pc with sata capabilities in order to attempt to save my data. Only to find out that the drive worked for about a week. Now nothing. I lost over 400 gbs of data.
My Drive stopped being accesed out of the blue. Seagate's Lame uninterested Tech Support was insulting all the way up to their management. They made it obvious they simply don't care.
Their solution was to buy their $129 recovery software.
The problem seems to be that for some unknown reason the NTFS file system was changed to RAW.
There is a lot of recovery software out there to suposably fix this by giving you a chance to copy the data to a new drive then reformat the bad drive for future use.
I am now trying to find the safest and best software solution. If I find it, I will post the results and the name of the software.
I will never buy another Seagate product as long as I live. I plan on changing out my current bank of 6 drivesa as soon as possible.
"Class Action Suite" I say sign me up... I have kept every email for just this purpose.
Same here. After over a year the drive simply stopped powering up. Thank GOD I had an emergency backup.
I have the same damn problem. Somethinfg should be done but it will most likely never get fixed.
luckily i had minimal amount of data backed up on this drive that just stopped working.... the comp i plugged it into said it experienced a power surge... should i roar?
Mine was a free warranty replacement for a different Seagate drive that failed - guess what - this afternoon a laptop crashed with a blue screen = one fried Seagate Drive. Last one I will ever buy from this company.
