Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll through all of your devices If you see a yellow question or exclamation mark ? ! or a red X you will need to update the drivers for this device right click select update driver/reinstall driver if you can see your usb device but its not working scroll to Ports(Com&Ltd) right click to update driver If you computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it. Rather doing a driver hunt which can take hours http://download.cnet.com/slimdrivers-free/3000-18513_4-75279940.html Windows XP/Vista/7/8
it might take some time being a freeware driver solution Note: it will find all of your outdated drivers
This will automatically search for and find the correct driver you will have to update every driver individually once you update you might be asked whether you want to restart or make a system restore point.

Click no to both of these then continue updating each driver free then restart once all of the drivers have been updated.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: UPGRADE DRIVER FOR MAXTOR 3100 EXT HARD DRIVE

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked (with the computer and hard drive plugged in). I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

SOURCE: I have the Thermaltake BlacX

I know it might sound a bit simple, but let's start at the beginning.

Make sure that the power is properly plugged in, and that it's securely plugged into the USB port.

Put in the hard drive you will be using.
Now turn on your device by clicking on the power button.
Listen out for a "ding" or a chime in your OS.

If you DO hear one, the hard drives may need to be properly formatted or not properly assigned.

If you hear a chime, go to your desktop and right-click on "Computer" and click "Manage"

Go to "Disk Management" and at the top, there are a few options, and check for your hard drives, and right-click on the proper one and click on "Change Drive Letter and Paths" assign it a letter, and check "Computer" to see if came up.

Thanks,

After installing windows 7 my cd drive doesn't work. I've tried new drivers and disabling it and everything else I can think of... can anyone help?

Hello,

Are you sure that you have installed the correct driver? Try going to the website of your computer's manufacturer and get the driver from there.

If your computer is 5 yrs or older it might not support windows 7 also you will need a minimum of 1 GB of RAM for 32 bit or 2GB of RAM for 64 bit to install windows 7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows7/products/system-requirements hope this helps

My iomega media xporter hard drive not being detected by my PC having windows 7?

Try your Iomega drive on another computer to make sure it works. if it works on another computer, then come back to your computer with windows 7 and try different usb ports. Maybe one of your usb ports is bad. If your usb ports are ok, then your drive is not compatible with windows 7.

Go to iomega's website and see if they have an update, patch or driver for Windows 7.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Iomega Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Windows 7 drivers.

My windows 7 (x64) will not Acknowledge My AcomData HD250FAPE5-72 External Hard Drive, What do I do.

Having looked at the review of this device, it doesn't sound good. There is a problem with these but if it shows up in explorer you can use it. The other problem is that it is not windows 7 recommended. Have you tried to use it with the firewire connection? You may have better luck, but Windows 7 has to have "Signed Drivers" for all hardware (they have to be vetted by Microsoft) Good luck.

Have windows 7 on new computer, installed Adobe Pagemaker which is fine but want to turn files into PDF format, message say's no printer driver installed. Have tried to install but windows will not let...

the printer will need to be installed in compatibility mode....un-install the printer from control panel.
pain in the **** i know, but least you'll know from now on, how to install older programs & drivers in to windows 7....
if your installing from a disk, then put the disk in, then when the auto run box comes up, close it...
open computer instead from the start menu.
right click on the cd drive with the disk in, & select open.
drag & drop the contents of the disk on to your desktop....make a new folder to put it all in, if you need to.
then once it's copied across, right click on the install/application icon.
from the top of the menu click "check compatibility" if you dont see it,click off it & then try right clicking on it again untill you see it.
windows will scan & set itself to the right settings for that program.
then click try recommended settings.....followed by START PROGRAM.
if it all installs ok click next then click YES KEEP THESE SETTING FOR THIS PROGRAM NEXT TIME.
then go to the printers web site & update it with the latest software, thats if windows doesn't do it for you.....TIP:(white flag @ bottom right of screen)
do this with all older software.....windows 7 is **** hot when it comes to running older programs, im using a windows 98 program call photo express on mine...no problem.

GOOD LOOK MATE.

Hello, i have sony vaio VPCEB46FG laptop & i have

Hi,

You're getting what's known as the 'blue screen of death' as some may call it.
This happens for various reasons, but usually occurs when Windows encounters a conflict with a hardware component in your laptop. When you try to install XP, are you doing so as a secondary operating system (dual OS boot) or are you trying to install it over Windows 7?
If you are installing XP over Windows 7, try doing a full format during setup instead of the usual quick setup. This may take some time, possibly requiring you to format the hard drive overnight but it may well solve any 'blue screen' issues you're experiencing.

Let me know if I can assist any further.

Best wishes,
Graemevm

It is required to install the hard disk SATA drivers in the computer first. Download and extract the SATA drivers in a floppy drive, hard drive or CD on a different computer. Then, retsrt the computer by having the Windows XP disc inserted and beging the setup. During the setup process press the F6 key and enter>enter and then install the SATA drivers. Then, continue with the further setup process.
