Why would a cylender not fire if the plug has spark and all other cylenders are firing?

What test told you it is not firing?

You may have valve damage &
little compression

Testimonial: "i pulled the wires, one by one, then when i found one that did not change engine sound, i pulled the plug and found good spark. Also, oil is coming from valve cover hose to air filter. I have also been dealing with water in the gas for several days, which was causing power loss and sputtering. Draining fuel/water seperator would temp. fix problem, allowing me to continue up river at full power"

If cylinder getting spark not firing not getting fuel.could have plugged fuel injector or faulty fuel injector.i would use a noid test light see if fuel injectors getting power and firing.hook noid light to fuel injector electrical connector need a helper which crank engine while you look at noid test light.if test light blink pcm is working.steady light pcm not firing.no noid light means fuel injector electrical connector has short in wiring or connector.you can buy fuel injector noid test light at auto parts stores if not snap on tools has them.

check cylinder not firing could have low compression.internal combustible engine need intake stroke. compression stroke. firing stroke and exhaust stroke.take away compression stroke engine cant compress air fuel mixture fire.do a compression stroke see what happening.

SOURCE: thick blue smoke. no oil

Hi! Chris, There are many causes of oil burning or exhaust smoke. There are three different causes of normal oil burning, 1; worn valve guides (smoking during deceleration), 2; worn cylinders and piston rings (smoking during acceleration), 3; split or worn out valve seal, or damaged intake manifold gasket (smoking all the time). Of course there are several variables in this equation. Sometimes coolant can also get into a cylinder and cause a blueish smoke. If you remove the spark plugs and use a pressure pump on the coolant system (radiator), coolant should leak into the intake manifold or cylinder. Coolant leaking into the intake manifold will leak into several cylinder through the valves. So, what year and how many miles are on the Jaguar?

SOURCE: I have a 1999 Ford

You may consider tracing back from coil back to the main plug and checking wires going into and coming out of the plug for any broke wires make sure to look for collapsed casings sometimes the wires will break internally

99chevyblazer mlss fireing on cylender one

Could be #1 spark plug, or ignition wire to # 1 plug. Can also be lack of proper compression in #1 cylinder, caused by bad or worn piston rings, or valves not sealing properly. When you check spark to #1 it should be a nice blue color not yellow, yellow is a weak spark and doesn't fire properly under compression

Y is my 97 chevy only fires on the number one cylender

if you have fire on the number one cylinder,it means that the ignition coil is working so your problem can come from spark plug wire or cap and rotor . unplug the wire from ignition coil to distributor and check for fire you are suppose to have fire because you saying having fire on cylinder one. from there change cap of distributor and rotor plus a set a spark plug wire.

One cylender does not fire

You need to take a compression test of that cylinder. If it's ok then its probably a bad fuel injector.

Have you changed the spark plugs/wires? A scan will pull up any codes that can narrow the issue as well.

And if u do find a cylender thats not fireing what next

It sounds as if you either have a faulty spark plug or a faulty high tension lead you need to check the plug and lead on the cylinder that is not firing. If they are OK the only other cause could be a lack of fuel to that cylinder.
