intermediate problems, flushing buffer, printer cycles but nothing prints then it goes back to flushing buffer. Lexmark T644

Incoming print data is in buffers while swath memory builds the next sets of image to be put on the page.

"Flushing Buffer" is the message that appears when an error occurs that causes the printer to dump the contents of the incoming buffers.

Are you using Postscript or one of the PCL Emulations? What communication port on the printer are you using. If you are using? If you are using a parallel port connection, which parallel protocol are you using?

No response from the original poster as of 6/6/09. Normally, a "Flushing Buffer" message is pointing at a Postscript problem. A quick easy test would be to set the printer for PCL and retry the job. If it works, then you really need to look at the PS print file to find the error. Don

    Follow up, clarification:

A "Flushing Buffer" message is generated by the Postscript Interpreter because the printer is set to Postscript but the incoming data is not Postscript.

Most likely cause is the the "Auto Smartswitch" on the printer has been turned off.

Open paper tray 1 (if it is the default paper tray), take out all the paper, adjust (temporarily) the paper size from letter to a different size, place it back to letter size, place back the paper, place back paper tray 1. Check the correct paper size is configured for the paper tray 1 at the Paper Menu.

The first 6 copies print quickly, then it goess to "slow motion" for rest of print job. How can I get the printer to print at the same speed

My guess would be that the quick printing at first is because the print job get spooled into a buffer and when the buffer is full the print job starts. The printer begins printing and using the buffer data as the computer continues to process the job and supply the buffer. At some point the buffer gets empty and the printer is waiting on the computer for more data, causing the slowdown. This rarely happens anymore, unless you have a very old printer or very old computer, as most printers have a rather large internal buffer memory. You may be experiencing issues with connectivity if the printer is being used wirelessly. Check to ensure that the wireless signal is strong to ensure maximum data throughput capability.

Printer prints gibberish / screen says flushing buffer after I added this printer to an old dell desktop computer in classroom

Likely there were stale print jobs saved on the comptuer that were pointing to the port you connected the dell to. Or you may have a defective cable to corrupted driver.

How to clear the print buffer for a print job already sent to the printer?

You have a network printer and honestly, I've never used one so I'm just guessing is same prcedure used with a standard printer should work. Procedure is for Windows.
I mean, you should open Printers & Faxes item in your Control Panel.
Click on your printer and when it opens press DOCUMENT menu item.
Select CANCEL
This selection is supposed to cancel anything you are printing.
The "problem" is that printer has a memory buffer, so that's why it should continue printing it's content. I don't know it the indicated procedure should also cancel printer's buffer.
Buffer might be rather big. Just imagne the storing capacity of a "small" 256 Mb memory.

My second idea is to READ YOUR USER'S MANUAL. Just guessing, your printer may have, or better said, should have a reset fuction to cancel all printing operations, or something like this

Lexmark E 250 dn printer. Keeps turning off. Switching from blue bulb indicator to exclamation point indiator. Difficult to turn back on by pressing blue arrow button

Hi,
The problem could be several things, the first one could be a Flushing buffer error. That means that the printer did not understand the print job sent to it and has to be reset in order to continue printing. Second could be a memory full error where the print job sent to the printer is too big and the printer memory is not enough. The third could be the printer front door is not closing properly, make sure the toner cartridge is installed correctly and that the front door is closed. That's all I can think of right now.

I have been printing chapters in a book. One chapter will not print. The message on the Lexmark screen is "flushing buffer". does anyone know what this means or why it will not print?

The 'flushing buffer' is most likely due to a corrupt file or file to large for the printer memory. You can check the file size and reduce it. Also you might want to upgrade your memory for the printer. Also might want to check your printer settings if the page you are having trouble printing is different from the other pages printed, such as text & graphics, etc. There is also a possibly of print program incompatibility or Windows OS Patch required but I doubt this since you have printed other pages without any problem. If you need to re-install Lexmark driver: http://downloads.lexmark.com/perl/downloads/downloads.cgi Or, if you need the Lexmark user's guide & reference guide: http://www.lexmark.com/publications/eng/optras/index.html

Posted by rhung33 on Jan 16, 2009 Under Window DOS prompt and Unix Sun Solaris 8 Station , using LPR -p command to print txt file to cause Lexmark T644 printer '' Flushing buffer '' and...

The printer can't handle the data it received and flush it out of its buffer. Goto Menu->Settings->Postscript Settings and turn "Print PostScript Erro" on. When the same print job prints, you should get a page printed out telling you what the printer doesn't like. You may also want to try forcing the printer into Postscript mode. Your PS file probably contains a PJL to set the device to PS mode before it prints. When the printer expects PCL data and received PS data(or vise versa), you can get this behaviour
