Hi. I have an older Homelite XL chainsaw and the oiler is not working, i figured out that it uses crankcase pulse to pressurise the oil tank and that lubes the chain. It should have a duck bill type valve on the hose coming from the crankcase i think but it was not there so i washed the tank out with fuel and it came out but the rubber valve is no good. Where can i get a part number for this valve? and a new valve? Thanks *BW*
Hopefully this diagram will come through if not go to homelite.com, service and support, find parts, parts locator, model xl then to engine internals. You probably have a bad oil pump and these are parts and numbers you might need.
4. Spring..69447
5. Gasket 2 each 69244
6. Plunger A12356B (most common problem)
7. Oil pump body 693431
8. Ball 60051
9. Spring 68570

Go to the Homelite web site, which will get you to HCPI Electronics Parts catalog. You will need the model number. The parts are illustrated as a break-away drawing for various portions of the saw. Hope this helps.

There is probably a filter on the bottom of a hose within the oil tank. Go through the tank fill cap with a blunted rod. Move it slowly you should find the hose. Draw it gently toward the opening. You can probably find a new filter at a Husqvarna (parent company) dealer if you don't have a Jonsered dealer handy. Oil pump replacement is complicated. Any good chainsaw mechanic can replace it regardless of what saw they sell. Arboristsite dot com is a buch of chainsaw nuts (Eye r 1). They will give you better guidance. Please do a searh in the chainsaw forum before asking "how do I fix my saw", the answer has almost certainly been asked. Spike60 is a Jonsered dealer and is always helpful. HTH Lou

That seems low to me. Page 15 in your manual is the only oil discussion I found. Usually there is an oil pump adjustment reference somewhere. I didn't see one beyond return it for service on page 15. Are the chain and bar hot after cutting a while? I recommend you not get a longer bar without an oiler adjustment. I think the hand of the EPA has been here.
An IPL (exploded parts list) for a 440 can be found here:

There is no oiler adjuster listed. HTH

Might be a good idea to copy the IPL,

SOURCE: I have 3 older Poulan chain saws, XXV, 1800, and 2000.
These oilers are called diaphragm oilers and work fairly well when the saw is new with great compression. As the saw wears out, the compression drops and a side effect is less oil pumped. The diaphragm is replaceable and it's not horribly expensive. Most good saws use a gear oiler - and even the newer Poulans use gear oilers. The gear oilers tend to have less problems and don't rely on engine compression.
