2003 Pontiac Vibe - 4 Cyl. 150k miles. Ignition coils keep going bad - every 4-6k miles. Coil 1 has been replaced 4 times, Coil 3 once. Coil 4 twice in the past year (20k miles). All spark plugs

Car is driven a lot in city. around 1500 miles a month. Coil 1 has been the biggest problem. Engine runs a bit rough on and off for a few days - then it's really rough and CEL comes on. p0301 (or whatever cylinder it is) We've also had a p0171 (fuel mix too lean) come up a few times in a year or so. I've replaced the air filter, put fuel injector in, and I've poked around for obvious hose leaks (haven't found any) - I'm not sure if this code is related to the coil problems - the errors don't come up together.

Install new spark plugs, 4 new coils & replace the oxygen sensors

O2 Sensors are only good for 100,000 miles, then slow
down or quite

No idea why the coils do not last 5 or 6 years

Cylinder #1 is always at the front on a 4 cyl

Go to Rock Auto --Buy Wells Coils,NGK Double
Platinum Plugs & NTK O2 Sensor

Those parts are expensive because you have a Totota
Motor I guess

Clean MAF Sensor with CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner

SOURCE: No fire from coil to #1 cylinder

Ok since you did all that if you want to swap around fuel injectors taking note where you put cylinder 1 injector. Lets say you swapped it with cylinder 4 . Now if you get a different code say P0304 which is for cylinder 4 misfire then you know it is your injector at fault. These are wear items and should be replaced every 100,000 miles.
Also i would suggest if you dont want to do that is get some good high octane gas when you are completely empty and fill to 1/4 tank now put in Lucas Oil fuel injector cleaner and run the car till empty. Now fill up tank with high octane gas in see if this helps. Clear code after your second tank of gas and see if the code comes back. if code does pop back up then i would do the swapping of injectors as i stated earlier. I hope this helps and good luck with the diagnosis.

SOURCE: Engine code states cylinder 2 misfire. Replaced

sounds like a bad injector, just connection at the injector, also check for leaks at intake, one more thing , do a compression test on that cylinder start there, good luck.

SOURCE: 04 Pontiac Vibe bad gas mileage without a code and then the p0420

that code is from having the plugs wires reversed as you did and the o2 senors regrsitered the overload on gas emmions once you remove the battery cables for about 5 minutes and then recconect and run the engine it should be okay

Misfire on Cylinder 3 swapped plugs between 3 and 4 on Pontiak Aztek 2003. Misfire remained on cylinder 3. Swapped ignition coil 3 and 6 with ignition coil 1 and 4 misfire still on cylinder 3

Try a new plug wire on cyl 3 if that doesn't fix it you could have a bad valve or compression problem on cyl 3 Try doing a compression test also If it has injectors for each cylinder you could have a bad injector for cylinder number 3

Hyundai 2.7 P303, P306 at the same time

I would say its the coil. A crank or cam sensor could cause one cylinder to miss, or go completely dead, but I doubt it would affect two cylinders. And you would get a code for either sensor.

What are cord packs, and culd this be a problem why my 98 Pontiac grand prix wont start

coils packs are a set of 2plugs that are fired by one coil.so if you have a 6 cyl you will have 3 coil packs.its unusuall that all coil packs go bad at once.your no start could be caused by an ignition module, crank sensor, computer, bad connections, bad wiring, even a fuel problem.there may be a code set in the computer that may help to find were ot start to diagnois.it will have to be checked out to pin point the area.

All you need to do, is buy one new coil,
one time at auto parts store $60.00 once

One bolt, you can install the COP Coil in
less then 30 min

You disregard the PO303 Code and walk
the new coil until you find the bad one.

You can do one or two cylinders a day, driving
at least 25 miles and getting it hot in between

Codes don't always match up to the problem cyl

When it isn't corrected put the old coil back where
it was, move the new one to the next cyl

Reoccuring Dead Spark Plug Coil on 2003 vibe

Check you spark plug and engine ground. if one of those is causing too much resistance then it can overload the coil.

I saw that one, on one of my cars and it was the spark plug that was loose but the car was not missing fire, it was just having too much resistance and overloading the coil.

Dead cylinders 2003 sebring

it sounds like you may have the wires on the wrong coil. It should be #1 on the #4 coil, and the #3 wire on the #2 coil. you probably have them backwards so 1 and 3 are firing on the exhaust stroke.
the firing order is 1-3-4-2.
they should be hooked like this.
