Win XP and Vista and Win 7 will have the proper drivers for an external projector. Just plug in the projector BEFORE you start the laptop and the drivers should get installed automatically and video should go to the projector (but not the laptop). You may need to adjust the resolution for best image. Once it's running, you can "toggle" from external to internal screen using one of your function keys. It usually has symbols like small TVs on it.
if your "F" function keys are a second function of the keys they are on there will be a key, usally located in the area of the lower left corner of your keyboard. If the "F" functions are in color, so will the key that activates them. The idea is that you hold down the Fn key while striking the selected "F" key
Compaq Presario computers provide users with a row of
function keys for added keyboard functionality. Function keys can serve a dual
purpose as well.
Function keys are located at the top of Compaq Presario
keyboards.
