Question about Canon FS10 Flash Media Camcorder
Hi, I can't get my G4 iMac to recognise the .MOV files that the Canon FS10 Video Cam pushes out. Can change file prefix to .MPG which then shows as a Quicktime file (but will NOT open in Quicktime) and can then be opened in VLC8 only. Still cannot use files in iMovie though as it will only accept a Quicktime file . I have very little hair left, but am still pulling it out over this one!
Quicktime's movie files are .mov files. However, you may not be able to play MOV files via QuickTime. There are some MOV players for Mac and you can take a try:
1. Leawo Blu-ray Player
It provides you the best image and audio quality for playing MOV files on Windows computer (including Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10).
2. CyberLink PowerDVD PRO 14
CyberLink is well known for its affordable and intuitive video editing software. The TrueTheater Surround feature gives you expanded stereo output options.
3. KMPlayer K-Multimedia Player (commonly known as The KMPlayer, KMPlayer or KMP) is a media player for Windows which can play a large number of formats including VCD, DVD, AVI, MKV, Ogg, OGM, 3GP, MPEG-1/2/4, WMV, RealMedia, FLV and QuickTime.

Why fails to import MOV to iMovie?
Like other multimedia container file formats like MP4, MKV, AVI, etc, the MOV files can store different types of media data. However, iMovie only supports MOV movie file whose codec is DV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264 or AIC, if the MOV video is encoded with other iMovie incompatible codec, you will definitely fail to load that file into iMovie or will suffer other playback issues even you have successfully drag and drop the mov video into iMovie's editing timeline.
Transcode Unsupported MOV for iMovie editing To fix above listed unsupported codec issue, the best way is transcoding MOV to iMovie editable file formats. Pavtube HD Video Converter for Mac can be the best MOV to iMovie conversion application which not only helps to convert all incompatible MOV files to iMovie compatible editing formats including MPEG-4, QuickTime Movie (*.mov), MPEG-2, AVCHD, DV & HDV, all also gives you the chance to produce the less processive intensive Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) if your computer is not powerful enough to deal with HD workflows.
