Screen dies when booting up

I have an old HP Pavilion 8630 I have not used it for sometime but have some data I now want to access.
I recently tried to power up the computer only for the screen to go black/blank on me.
Can I do anything to get the screen to work?

    Hi,

When you power up the computer does the power led stay on? Also does the busy light stop flashing after the screen goes blank?

TRY PLUGGING IN EXTERNAL MONITOR, THIS IS IF YOU HAVE A LABTOP AND I THINK NOT.

HOW ABOUT REMOVING THE OLD DRIVE AND PUTING IT ON THE NEW COMPUTER AS 2ND DRIVER OR SLAVE DRIVE, SOME COMPUTER CABLES OFFER SELLECT CABLE THE C DRIVE WOULD BE 0 AND 2ND DRIVE WOULD BE 1, IF YOU DONT HAVE SELECT CABLE THAN EACH DRIVE HAS TO BE SET UP YOU WILL HAVE TO GO TO THE MFG WEB SITE LOOK UP JUMPER SETTINGS, THE FIRST DRIVE WILL BE THE MASTER AND THE SECOND ONE WILL BE THE SLAVE, NOW IF YOUR CD ROM IS ON WITH THE HD THAN YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE 2ND CABLE FOR THE CDROM TOPUT ON THE 2ND SET OF PINS MARKED 2ND HD OPTION AND YOU HARD DRIVERS MASTER AND SLAVE GO ON
BANK 0 IF IT SAYS 0, IF IT SAY1 THAN PUT IT ON 1.

REBOOT AND THE COMPUTER WILL START AND PUT YOU INTO THE CMOS AND YOU WILL ADD THE HARD DRIVE BY GOING TO 2ND HD PUTTING CYCL, HDS, SECT, YES LBA
2ND CABLE YOU SELECT CD OR DVD
F10 AND YES
REBOOT
EVERYTHING SHOULD WORK FINE.

IF YOU DONT FILL CONFERTIBLE DOING THIS TYPE OF INSTALLATION THAN HAVE YOUR COMPUTER PROGRAMER FRIEND DO IT FOR YOU OR COMPUTER TECHN WILL WORK TOO.

Hp pavilion ze1210 intermittently boots up or will not turn on at all.

ok it's a laptop., old.
let me guess 2003 made, square 4:5 screen
XP removed, (smart idea) Linux installed.
I guess the screen is 100% dead, not one pixel ever glows, right?
no text, ,no BIOS screens on demand, (esc key pressed, power on)

1: step 1 is always remove the main big battery. run now?
2: try external VGA screen yet, to see if the old internal screen is dead? see that VGA jack on the rear, and the hot function key that turns it on, bingo.?
(use a flash light to see if screen internal has data but the
CCFL back lamp is dead.?)
4: if bios is dead and both screens fail, what is next.?
19vdc from the power pack must reach the guts (MOBO)
if not all HP lap tops die. use a voltmeter or get a spare power pack
many power packs this old are now bad. 14 years old,
the can be good, bad, or weak. weak is bad.
5: sparks is a bad thing, in all cases, when heard it needs service.

Hi everyone, I'm new here and I hope get along with all of you and also to get an answer to my problem :) First of all, sorry if I may be long but I like explaining in detail so that you can understand my...

When you have everything connected and are ready to access the old hard drive, right click in the drive and see if you get the run as administrator option, if you do, click on it and log in as the administrator of your machine, if you don't get that option, go to the control panel and security and disable the User Account Control, reboot and you should be able to access it. just be sure to turn it back on later.

How can i restore my hp pavilion 7955 computer to factory settings

The Recovery Manager program makes it possible to restore your laptop to its settings as of a previous date or restore your computer to its original factory settings, which will erase all of your installed programs and personal data. Using the recovery partition allows you to bypass the hassle of keeping track of recovery discs, which could be damaged in storage, rendering them useless when you need them.

Instructions

Access Recovery Manager During Windows Startup
  1. 1 Turn on or restart your HP Pavilion laptop.
  2. 2 Press "F11" when the "Press <F11> for recovery" message appears during the HP Pavilion boot process.
  3. 3 Select "Recovery Manager" from your list of recovery options and press "Enter." The Recovery Manger program will open on your screen, and you can begin the recovery process.
    Access Recovery Manager Within Windows
  4. 1 Click the "Start" icon or "Start" button in the lower left corner of your Windows home screen.
  5. 2 Click "All Programs" and then "Recovery Manager."
  6. 3 Click "Recovery Manager" again to open the Recovery Manager program on your HP Pavilion laptop.

My HP laptop (Pavilion) is running very slow. I'm afraid to download the ''TV Specials'' we see advertised. Thx, Ray

download 'ccleaner' from filehippo.com & run it & remember when u run it, only check the temporary files, recycle bin, recent documents....
this might speed up ur notebook...
If you are using XP or Vista, you have this. You can access the boot menu by loading your MSCONFIG. During the boot up your computer issues a time out to find new hardware and software. You can short this time to boost your startup speed.
1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type msconfig
4. In the system configuration utility, click either BOOT tab.
5. In the boot menu, change the default setting for Time Out from 30 to 5 seconds.

When booting all that comes up is "operating systems failure"

If you have an os disk or restore disk you can put that in and at the HP logo hit F12 that will take you to the boot menu choose boot from cd and then when prompted choose repair

New HDD inserted into Pavilion ZD7000 - will not boot from XP CD

Try your old HDD in it and see if that works. If it does work then nothing is damaged except your DVD drive/Controller. Try putting the new HDD in another computer, installing windows then putting it back in the HP. If all else fails then flash the bios with an updated image and see if that rectifies the problem.

Factory settings

If windows still boots ( and the original hard drive is still in the computer) you can click the start button and find the HP Recovery Manager under the All Programs list. It is probably tucked away under one of the HP tabs.

If windows doesn't boot, and you still have the original hard drive you can press F11 when your first turn it on at the HP logo screen. It should start the recovery program. (The F key can be different on different laptops but most recent HP's are F11)

Be careful, doing a System Restore will erase all your Data, so backup anything important!
