Kohler shower facuet pressure balancing problem?

We have a shower faucet made by Kohler, T15101-4S. One day the water stopped coming out. After replacing the pressure regulator (2 cartridge shape) and the stem adapter, it became erratically. Sometimes water came out even though the handle is turned to off. Sometimes water wouldn't come out. Sometimes the water couldn't be shut off so we had to shut off the main water. I called Kohler. They said it's a water-balancing problem between hot and colder water. How could I fix it? It's also worrisome to see the faucet doesn't have anything to shut off the water mechanically. The water can come out when nobody is at home. Thanks!

It doesn't look difficult to align the parts. The pressure regulator only goes in one-way and it doesn't move. The stem adapter lines up with the pressure regulator easily. Only the inside of the stem adapter rotates with the handle.

I was wrong saying that the faucet doesn't have anything to shut off the water mechanically. The stem adapter has two openings that are pressed against a plate to shut off the water. The problem is it doesn't work sometimes. The faucet seems work a few minutes then the water would come up while the faucet is shut off. It's crazy.

Ever since the pressure balancing regulations came out for shower valves, they have went from simple to very complicated devices. sounds as if some foreign material caused the valve to stop working. that valve is quit difficult to reassemble correctly because there is only one way it works and can be assemmbled many ways that do not work concerning alignment of the ports. if you dissassemble it and check that all the moving parts are functioning in the balancing cartridge you can then look closely at the alignment of the ports on the cartridge that the handle is connected to. understanding how the port align as the handle is turned should assist you in assembling it correctly......hope this helps.

My water heater was serviced(drained and circ pump replaced) and I'm still getting lukewarm water for my showers. It doesn't get as hot as it used to at all. I can't even wash my hair-it gets cold too...

If the water is only cool in the shower, it could be the shower valve. However if water is cool at all taps, something is not working on the water heater system.

My heater stops working in the middle of the night. I have to get up to re set it but it turns off by the time i get back to bed. By 10 AM it starts working again on its own. its done this for 2 years and...

the Model number you gave is for a Shower Head what do you mean it doesnt heat... it only conrtols the water temp by BALANCING the hot and cold water inlets does NOT heat anything if your water is cold then check another PLAIN faucet to see if your water is the same temp( cold) if it is the hot water from water HEATER is cold nothing to do with faucets

No hot water pressure on kohler bath / shower faucet

Try draining the system and apply air pressure (min 30psi) to each faucet. Open other hot water faucets to allow pressure to vent. Next try draining and cleaning the hot water tank.

Faucet issue

Sounds like it was installed upside down or the cartridge is installed improperly

Installed a new oak brook collection tub and shower faucet and no water comes out.

You may have to disassymble the faucet to see if there is something that is stuck in there or that the assymbly internally is stuck in the closed position.

Pressure problem with Kohler shower faucet??

Hi pglaw,

My best guess is the supply valve for the hot side isn't open all the way. This valve is right on the valve and is accessed by taking off the front cover plate. This would still allow the pressure balancing valve to let water through but then you would have a small flow on the hot side.

If this isn't it then then cartridge is bad.

Please rate this response and good Luck,, phil

No water coming out of my Kohler Forte R10275-4-BN shower valve

This is a pressure balancing valve that needs both cold and hot water pressure to operated. It is an anti-scald safety operation.

Good Luck, Phil
