Always make sure the hand wheel is at the exact top. Have you replaced the need recently? If it's bent, then the threader will not work. If the needle is loose or not all the way to the top in the holder, it will also cause the threader to not work.

I think this is 3 years too late but since I'm now having the same problem...maybe this will help. I just found out that I may have caused the problem by using schmetz needles on my PE770. I went to buy some Organ brand needles from Amazon and in reading the comments found out that this might be the answer to both the extreme shredding issues and my threader not working too. Hope this helps someone else.

SOURCE: threading the needle of the embroidery machine

You may need a magnifying glass to see the tiny hook that should pass through the needle eye to catch the thread....

....if it is not aligned properly and does not go through the eye you will need to realign it....

...there may be a small screw attaching the mechanism, loosen slightly with jewelers screwdriver so you can move it but there is still some friction and gently engage the needle threader to see how far you need to move it, then gently, using a fine screwdriver, tweesers etc, nudge the tiny hook a little, check result and continue to adjust until remedied....re-tighten screw.

If there is no screw adjustment, a gentle bending will resolve the problem............but if there is no tiny hook, it will need replacing.

They are not easily broken, but only use gentle pressure to be sure.

SOURCE: automatic needle threader on brother se-350

Hi - first, make sure that you raise the needle to as far up as it will go. When you thread the machine, make sure you pass the thread through each number along the path - there is a hook on the threader mechanism that is really easy to miss. It is always a good idea to refer to the book when you are having a problem.

You might also try changing the needle. The threader has a teeny hook that goes in to the eye of the needle from behind, grabs the thread, and pulls it back thru the eye of the needle.

The threader can go out of alignment. If you got the machine last fall, it should still be under warranty. You can call Brother and ask where you can take the machine for repair. Or, you can go to Brother's website and look for information that might be helpful.

Good luck,
Ginny

SOURCE: Broken needle threader?

Hi - welcome to FixYa. I have this machine, and unfortunately, the cassettes can break. If the threader worked when you first got your machine, I would suggest buying a new cassette (even if your threader is working). A second cassette is very handy because you can thread your next color in the extra cassette before the machine stops for the next color change - when the machine does stop, just put in the second cassette, and thread the other with the next color - speeds things up alot. And, if one of the cassettes does break, you aren't sitting in a puddle waiting for a new one.. You can find the thread cassettes for sale on a variety of sites - this is where I buy mine:

http://webstore.quiltropolis.net/stores_app/Browse_dept_items.asp?Store_id=492&page_id=17

Some of the 270Ds came with a spool pin - look in your manual for a picture and for the instructions for installing and using the spool pin. You can use it for spool of thread that are too large for the cassette and I think you can leave it installed on your machine all the time. If you don't have your manual, leave a comment and I'll look mine and check the instructions.

Hope this helps. If you have a minute, a rating (good or bad) tells me if the information or solution I provide is helpful to anyone who visits FixYa.

If you would like me to write a tip on salvaging an embroidery project that has been pulled into a birdsnest, leave a quick comment and I'll add the tip. Thanks everybody, and good luck. Please feel free to comment if you need more help or have more questions.

SOURCE: My automatic threader won't thread.

Hi

Make sure the needle is installed correctly (facing the correct direction and all the way up into the clamp on the shaft).Check the manual for needle insertion. The needle has to be in its highest position when using the auto threader. When using an auto threader and the threading wire mis-hits the needle, you can bend or break the wire. A bent threading wire can be realigned, but a broken wire will require a replacement of the threader.

In Brother SE-270D there are several reasons that could cause the auto threader not to work.

  • The needle was not raised. Press the needle position button.
The thread cassette indicator will light up in green.
  • The needle is not installed correctly.
Install the needle making sure the flat side is facing the back.
  • The thread cartridge is not threaded correctly.
Make sure the thread cartridge is threaded according to the diagram.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.
Thank you for contacting fixya.com

I cannot get the CE-250 automatic needle threader to work. Threader and needle do not align up together.

Always make sure you rotate flywheel to raise the needle to its highest position before trying to use the threader. additionally the correct needle has to also be used so the threader wire and needle eye line up properly.

I'm using Brother Poly thread on my Brother PE-770. Everything was fine until I changed needles. I followed the directions exactly. But now, when I embroider, my thread keeps unraveling and the needle...

Please check your needle position, putting it in backwards is a very common error, the FLAT side of the needle shank should be towards the back. Also be sure that during the transition, that the bobbin thread did not get misaligned.
So, make sure the needle has the flat side to the back, and rethread your bobbin thread through making sure it is correct.

After replacing needle, needle threader won't work. What am I doing wrong?

You probably haven't inserted the needle fully into the needle bar. Try that first.

Also check that there isn't a bit of needle shank in the holder.

Good luck.

The threader to the needle wont catch the thread

It takes some getting used to, to get these to work properly. Practice. First make sure your needle is in correctly and fully. then make sure that when you engage the needle threader the tiny little hook goes through the eye of the needle. If it doesn't it won't work at all.

Then follow the instructions in the book. Make sure the thread is on the proper side of the tiny hook....

Good luck

I have a really hard time getting the needle to thread.l I cannot manually pass the thread through the needle eye: the eye is just too tiny; and I cannot even see the hook part of the automatic threader...

I have that machine, and am wondering if your needle has a burr on it, try a new needle, #11 or #80. You may also have no hook in your automatic threader to go throught needle eye. My first automatic threader was defective, no wire to go through the needle to catch the thread. Take a magnifying glass and look when you change your needle and watch when you pull your threader down, do you see a really fine wire come through the needle eye? If, not yours is defective because it has to pull the thread into a little loop for you to pull your thread through it after you release the lever quickly, Mine was a Singer and they sent me a new one right away, Brother will do the same for you, I am sure. Another thing you can do is go to your dealer and have them inspect it, I went to JoAnn fabrics and that is how I learned that I was not crazy, it was the machine,
