Most transmissions have a plastic gear mounted on the uotput shaft that connects to a gear on the end of the speedo cable or electronic sender unit for the speedo. This gear is normally driven by a steel ball embedded in the shaft and the gear has a slot that makes the ball act as a drive key. I would check by removing the sender unit/cable and seing if the gear can be rotated around the shaft. If it can be moved take the unit back to the reconditioners and ask for a warranty repair as the ball/ key has probably fallen out during assembly

SOURCE: 1991 chevy silverado lost reverse

just have someone look at it. like aamco or someone that does a free diagnostic. the tranny will probably have to be rebuilt.

SOURCE: 2005 chevy silverado won;t start.

i had the same problem, and it turned out the coil pack was moulding inside wich stopped the spark all together, i ended up changing my coil pack and putting on new wires because the ends connected to the coil were very corroded and that cures the not running part just fine

Where is the speedometer cable on a1990 Chevy

it runs from the transmission to the speedometer on the dash by way of running along the firewall then into the cab of the truck. it threads into the driven gear assembly by a nut on the side of the transmission. just follow the cable from the trans to the speedo head.

Can a 94 chevy cheyenne transmission interchange with a 97 chevy silverado tranmission

Will it physically fit? yes. Will it be a direct replacement any everything hook right up and plug right in? If we are talking about an automatic then no. 1994's wiring was completely different than the 1997. Can it be made to work? possible, but I believe it would be more trouble trying to make it work than if the correct transmission were located and installed. If it is a cost issue where he has a good trans out of a 1994 he might see if a salvage yard will do some partial trading for the correct trans.

Speedometer is pegged out at 100 and won't work

Hi,
Likely one of your Speed Sensors (VSS) is bad. Sorry I don't know WHERE these are located, but get on some of the Chevy Truck forums for answers.

1994 chevy k1500 4x4 the speedometer is not working and my transmission wont shift but if the speedometer is working the trans works perfect

Speed sensor is most likely goin or gone out. It is located on the drivers side of the transmission tailshaft. Speed information runs through the cruise control and the computer to the speedometer.
