Lexmark T642 - print is very light

The main cause of light print is a bad set of charge and transfer rollers. These rollers are used to put a charge on the paper and transfer the toner to the charged paper. When the rollers get worn out they can not put the proper electrical charge on the paper so the toner does not stick to it as it should. One roller sits under the toner cartridge and on is on top on the cartridge. If you pull out the toner and look inside the printer you will see the transfer roller and if you start to close the lid with the toner out you will see the charge roller come into view. Here are pictures of each one. Transfer roller first.

It can be the cartridge or the dual charge roller. This roller is located above the cartridge. Take out the cartridge and lower the front cover 1/2. then you can see the dual charge roller. Partnumber 40X0127

A T642 has no "heads"as in an inkjet. "Drops" on the paper are mostly caused by a leaking cartridge. So try replacing the cartridge.

Switch off the printer and let the printer cool down. Then on the front of the printer open the release latchand lower the multipurpose feeder then open the top cover by releasing the latch. You will be able then to pull out the print catridge. Hope this helps.

You can adjust the print registration settings in the Config Mode of the printer. I believe you hold down both the down arrorw and right arrow button when you power on the printer

Sounds like there is something corrupt with the driver or the wrong driver is associated with the printer. Delete the printer from the computer, but leave attached. Download the newest driver directly from Lexmark and execute the download. The computer should then automatically re-install the printer.

use the product selector to enter your model number and operating system.

just a wild guess. it may not be capable of printing in color.
check if you indeed have color cartridges installed.

Chip on toner is bad, try puting in old one to reset and switch it with new one, sometimes turning off and on several times helps.

You need to download the Postscript drivers from Lexmark site.
