My dishwasher door will not stay up unless locked. I have installed new springs, to no avail

This is a Frigidaire Gallery model #DGBD2432KW1. The dishwasher is level. The door closes and latches. However, when the door is up and not latched, it will not stay up. Also, when the door is down and the bottom shelf rolled out, the door falls completely to the ground.

most likely the spring or linkage is come off. Try checking with the diagram at ftp://ftp.electrolux-na.com/prodinfo_pdf/kinston/5995554473.pdf

Might help with solution if you provide make and model number of dishwasher.

Sometimes the solution is a simple as ensuring the dishwasher is level so that the door shuts. The spring tension may need adjustment and usually there are a few screws at the top of dishwasher panel. Depends on make and model.

SOURCE: my KitchenAid dishwashers door will not stay shut.

Sure thing.
Our dishwasher is one that we put our own "Door on it" in our case, it matches the cabinet. It is designed for that.
I went on-line and ordered the replacement parts. I can't recall the site but I will look thru my files and send to you if I find it.
I removed our door front and slid the DW out about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way. I did not want to mess with disconnecting power and water lines. 1/2 way out should be enough room to work on the places you need to be. On both sides near the back and bottom you will see a large tension spring. Be careful not to bust a knuckle here. Using a sturdy hook of some kind is recommended. In place of that you might try a solid wooedn hanger with a heavy hook on it. BE CAREFUL, while pulling on the front part of the spring you will release the tension on the cord that is around the plastic guide wheels and attaches to the bottom hinge of the door.
Release the hook and then the tension you have on the spring. repeat this on the other side. With both sides free the door should lift off the hinges and the base it sits on. inspect your hinges. mine were bent, not much, but I was at whits end. I replaces both. I also replaced both cords that were attached to the tension spring and one of the plastic roller wheels ? I am sure there is a better name for them. It was the longer of that is on the tear drop shaped fastener.
I then placed the door back in posistion and closed it. On the the tear dropped shaped guide wheel (the one at the bottom) you will see that there are holes to adjust the tension. The closer you move this wheel towars the front of the machine, the more tension on the hinges. I set mine in the middle and this seemed to work. Before you slide it back in the space, try a test to see if the door stays shut. ie. run a rinse cycle too. Hopefully that is all you will need to do...BUT.
That was not to total solution in our case. I ended up ordering and replacing the door switch (a black plastic piece that is what the metal latch on the machine is supposed to "hook" into.
Replacing it is fairly simple. I did shut the power off for this. This part is replaced by taking off your face plate which is secured bu screws inside of your DW door around the edge. You will see 4 screws to remove and it "snaps" out. At this point you can see the working relationship with the latch, the switch and the contacts on the switch that the door latch (metal part coming out of the top of the DW) after replacing this...try the process again and hopefully your issue will be solved. I had to remove my latch and bend it back to the original shape and mess around with a slight bend to make it latch and hit the contacts in the door latch.
Good luck! I am sorry this is so long. :-)

How do I fix a door that wont stay closed?

The spring probably broke in the latch, or the door balance springs are slack. You have to pull it out and removed the side panels. The latch literally just holds it in place. You should be able to tell if the springs are holding the weight of the door though. Then split the door to inspect the latch.

Dishwasher door no longer spring loaded. If standing too close, it if hurt your legs. it will stay closed, but no spring to load the weight of the door when opening.

In most cases, there are 2 springs inside the door, one right and one left.
Either a spring has broken, or the metal; holder that holds the end of the spring has.
That spring should be available from "searspartsdirect" if you will type your model number into their web-site.
God bless your efforts.

Dishwasher door won't latch

it is very likely the dishwasher is not levelled correctly or the springs in the door are too tight. Refer installation manual to check dishwasher levlelling and door spring is adjusted correctly. Please provide dishwasher make and model if you do not have the installation manual.

The door just flys open and slams down with no support. Won't stay closed unless pushed in all the way.

I'm no sure why the door is flying open but it the door is falling without any tension, it sounds like 1 or both of the cheezy nylon lines that hold the door springs or their plastic accessories have bit the dust. Look at page 24 of your installation instructions if you have them. Shows what they look like. If you pull the dishwasher out, you will see them in the front on the lower left and right. Our dishwasher is 7 years old and they have broken twice now.

Dishwasher door, too much spring

YES after you have the panel installed it will open and close much better the factory sets the springs on your model tight so when the panel is installed it can weight down the door after the panel is install you may have to readjust them tighter again
