There is a level sensing sub-sytem which senses the water pressure in the tub and shuts off the water when pressure gets to the correct level. This system uses a tube run from the bottom of the tub to a diaphragm pressure switch at the top of the machine -- usually under the rim of the top of the washer or in the panel where the controls are mounted. Sounds like this tube has an obstruction in it, or it may have a leak / loose connection. Try removing it and cleaning it. Please let me know if this solves the problem. If not, it may be that the pressure switch is malfunctioning, but usually this is not the case.
It sounds like the bearings have collapsed..You may have noticed a noisy spin cycle prior to loosness in the inner drum...This is a big job. Get quotes...Good luck...Nomess
I just replaced the bearings on my Front loader Maytag MAH5500B, as it sounded like a freight train during the spin cycle. The bearing replacement fixed the train problem.
NEW PROBLEM NOW: It's been about a month now since the bearing job and now something is clicking/binding when you spin the back belt wheel. I have taken the belt off and carefully move the wheel and I still get this clicking noise. It sounds as if someone is hitting the plastic drum that the tub is surrounded by. I really doubt it's the bearings this soon, as the sound is not the same! No leaks or metal shavings to speak of or rubbing of the belt wheel.
Seems like it's more noticeable during the wash/rinse cycles then the spin.
