The PowerRite Plus was an old Deltec model. Deltec was acquired a few times and is now belongs to Eaton. They are 12v 22AH SLA batteries. They are wired in series. The neg runs to the board, the two positive wires run to the fuses at the side of the cabinet.

Sir, just open the ups, and you can see the battery inside. after you open, pull out the battery, then look for the voltage rating, it is located on the battery itself

For deltec PRR2200i you got 4 pcs of 12 volts batteries and it was just connected in series

If you replaced the batteries, and the +ve wire touched the body you will short out the batteries with possible battery death depending on how severe and for how long the short was.
You should not have harmed the UPS unit at all, not even blown the fuses.

I have the same PCB on my Deltec PRR2200i. I at least know a few things about the circuit now. I had 11 transistors explode on mine and am replacing them now. Sadly I have not managed to track down a circuit diagram.
