If you have upgraded your software on your wii, your freeloader won't work anymore. Mario carts is written in a way to stop people using programs such as freeloader. Its something called signed trucha, other people will not more. You could try buying a UK mario cart on ebay and trying that. Otherwise, looking into getting it mod chipped to overcome the region barriers. But always buy original games for it

We bought the Wii Mario Kart in England and it won't work on our Wii station in the US. We get a message that says "unable to read the disc". What should we do?

It's from a different region, so it won't work at all unless you either:
A) Buy a european Wii
or
B) Mod your Wii to free up the regions.
North America and Japan (as well as some other random places) use NTSC format, while Europe (and other random places) use PAL format. You can't play PAL on NTSC and vice-versa.

New wii for xmas already broke in February-disc read errors on Mario cart and other games too. Nintendo told us to send back console because that may have been the problem. Disc drive was replaced and...

I think the [roblem comes from game usege and bad care. Another thing could be where you bye the games. The same thing happened to me but I found a solution that will not work with you.
