Central Locking not working

I have a 2004 BMW E46 320i individual. Non of my doors want to open with remote(mainly in the morning). i have to manually turn the key in drivers side door! this only opens my door! Doors are double locked and wont open from the inside! while im driving im always pressing the unlock button on center console! this sometimes works and the remote sometimes works!

What is the cause of this??? Its really embarrassing to pull up at a place and my passengers have to climb out of the drivers door!

the key seems to make the lights in the car go on but the doors stay locked...
please help..

    Hi,
I have same problem as Craig in my 320 D E46. unlockign works sometimes may be once in 10 attempts. Anyone has any solution? Halford checked the battery and they measured it at 55% and non repairable. I am gonna try new battery, and will post my comments here after changing the battery.

    cheers,
    Rahul

i have had the same problem also but as i have a spare key i started to use this and works fine, from this i would have thought that the battery in the remote that gets charged every time u place key in egnition has stopped charging correctly. just a thought as new key is fine, for now.

Exact same problem as Craig704. Central locking in my BMW 320D will not work in the morning but for some reason, it will work later in the day. Also, operating the key manually will usually only open the drivers door.

Hi Craig,
I'm running a E34 Tds Touring with a similar problem, my rear doors and tailgate have dropped of the central locking circuit.
I have been told it is the Central locking Module a large black box under the dash that is faulty, apparently a common problem.
Hope this points you in the right direction,
Please remember to rate my effort!

Hi Craig,
The most common fault is the drivers door striker plate.
I have had this problem on all the BMWs i have owned and replacing the plate cures it.

Cannot open passenger door with the remote and the manual key but can lock. only the drivers door opens.

The central locking is faulty on the passenger door it's a common problem on the E90 models you need to renew the latch which contains the central locking actuator

Central locking in my bmw 320 diesel isnt working it wont open the doors but it will start the engine , the spare key is the same so its not the battery of the keys

Providing central locking works when you insert key in lock, try programming keys
Enter car make sure all doors/windows are shut
Switch ignition on and off, remove key
PRESS AND HOLD UNLOCK BUTTON ON KEY
Press lock button on key 3 times whithin 10 seconds and release unlock
Central locking will lock/unlock rapidly to confirm reset
If your key is the type with bmw logo in the middle battery replacement is not possible,as it charges as you drive

Central Locking does not work

You must reset your remote control in order for the lock/unlock to work properly.

To reset remote you would:
1)Insert Key in Ignition Turn to Position 1(Don't Start the Engine) for about 5 seconds
2)Turn Key Off and HOLD the LOCK button on Remote while pressing the UNLOCK 3 TIMES
3)Release both lock and unlock buttons you are holding
4)All doors should automatically unlock

And exit the door and lock with the Remote.

Boot will not unlock with the remote button from key fob

Yes, this is what makes the Germans so cool!

Step one, replace battery in key foob. If that doesnt work proceed to next step.

Your BMW has a central locking system overide solution.

insert your main key into the driver door. before turning the key lift the door handle as if your opening the door, then turn the key all the way clockwise....it should go further than it ever has....it should make all the door latches POP! If this doesnt work, Try it while turning the key counterclockwise.

If this doesnt work, make sure you have your radio code and take off the negative battery cable overnight on your car. Then attach it after 12 hours and repeat above steps.

This should work, this is what they will do at the dealer and charge you about $700 :-)

I have a bmw 316ti compact on a 52 reg. The central locking gave up working 3mths ago and we was useing the key to lock and unlock the car, then all ov a sudden we couldnt start the car.when you put the...

with any BMW they have their problems, one is the central locking/immobilizer, the central locking is linked into the immobilizer and vice versa, the immobilizer takes it signal to disarm from the central locking and the ignition key ring. (chip in the key) if one of these starts to play up it has loads of consequences this being one of them. they all need to work together for the system to work properly. you would need to read the alarm and immobiliser codes using an ob2 tool that can detect them, and find the fault some problems it can be the drivers door sensor in the lock this is the main door as its drivers side and it controls all other doors on the central locking. if the switch is worn in any of it movements the system will not know the door has been opened, this does not work on the interior light as that is a switch in the door frame. the door lock is lock unlock and deadlock with key with remote fob its also arm disarm alarm and immobiliser. i have seen in some models there is a sensor auto lock so when you walk away with the key the doors lock automatically all lease parts work together. any one having a problem can cause no signal to be sent to the others in the system to start engine .
