Use a multi meter and use checking continuity, from one side of the switch to the other. If you have continuity, the switch is good. It is also likely that the power cord could be bad, again checking continuity put one probe on one prong of the plug, and the other probe on the black, white, or green wire (thus checking the continuity through the cord)

It is common that cords get pulled out of the wall socket incorrectly, or accidentally when you run out of cord as you word away from the power source, stretching and eventually breaking one of the wires inside the power cord.

I have an electrolux discovery II vacuum cleaner and the floor function works, but when I try to switch over to carpet mode, it doesn't seem to engage.

There is a red reset button on the back of the machine. When it trips, the brush won't engage. Press the reset button and then try your machine again.

Quit running I checked all electric and it has electric running to it reset button won't reset it it just doesn't run

a newer model unit (withing 5-7 years) has a deadman switch inside. This means that if the filter is out of the machine or not in properly it will not start the motor until the filter is back in its proper place.

If it is an older model, what you can test is the low voltage lines coming into the unit. Where they go into the unit (usually red or black circular with the two "phone wires"), take a screwdriver and touch the two wires with the screwdriver. What you are looking for at this moment is either a "click" or the motor will start.

If the motor starts, great, now you have to trace the wiring and see where it went bad.
If the unit clicks, its possible it is your motor.

Either way, good luck.

Carpet rollers dont work

Hi There,

Yes, there is a reset switch on your Electrolux. This particular model also has some problems with the wands on the machine as well. Sometimes these wands will short out, preventing the power nozzle from working.

Try pushing the reset switch first to see if this fixes your problem. The reset switch is located on the power nozzle on the right hand side if you're looking down on it. It will be a little red pole, simply push this pole downwards, possible using a ball point pen is the easiest way.

If this didn't fix your problem, then it could be a few different things. The wands on your model are problematic, and should be the next thing that you test. Simply remove the wands from the power nozzle, and you can use a simply electrical tester purchased from Home Depot, and put the testers into the female receptacles on the end of each section of wand to ensure that power is getting down to the brush.

It may also be that your hose has gone bad. If you test both wand sections, and no power is getting through, remove both wand sections and test the female electrical connections on the end of the hose handle.

If you're not getting power here, this indicates that your hose has gone bad and needs to be replaced. We do carry all of the hoses for the Electrolux canisters, and most likely have the one for yours in stock. Please feel free to contact me if you need any further help.

Thank you,

You need to replace the hose itself. The buttons in the handle a very cheap and go bad all the time.

My Electrolux upright worked fine

Are you using the proper bag? There's a kill/reset switch that needs to be pushed down by the rim of the bag before the unit will run.

Electrolux Canister - Stops working after 1-2...
Our vac works for a short time, then shuts off and makes clicking noise as if trying to restart again. Works after cooling for a while but for another very short time. Your suggestion on fix would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure
I would advise that it could be a thermal switch or a regular switch that the thermal switch is over heating and needs replacement – there are small hoses in the door section that could have been pinched or kinked and it stopping the air flow from the vacuum – also check for a clogged or plugged vacuum hose, a full vacuum bag or a dirty vacuum filter. Check the thermal switch or reg switch or the hoses in the door. Or feel free to contact your local vacuum dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or call the factory @ the phone number listed below:
