I would examine the pushbuttons at the front of the PC board to see if they have been contaminated with any kind of liquid that was sprayed or spilled inside. If they are contaminated then you can try cleaning them with lacquer thinner or replacing them and cleaning the board. If they are clean then this is a symptom of a defective main computer IC, and I have seen this on many of these sets. Unfortunately, this IC is surface mounted on a sub board and the board would have to be replaced and reprogrammed, and this would have to be done by someone with experience in these sets.

Tv picture changes and recording is unwatchable when trying to rec one of 4 local channels

It is the signal from the 4 local stations that is the problem, because you can record all others ok. Borrow another VCR and try to record them, if its the same tell the people who run the local channels that they are losing viewing figures, because their channels cannot be recorded.

Some of their very old sets the video input was located on channels in the 90's; Try scrolling down from 99 to 90 to see if you locate the video input; this is just the way they did things in the older sets.

When hooked up to digital cable box aspect ration changes from 4:3 to 16:9

I wonder, does it do this on all programs ? I notice the same thing on my cable box when some of the wide screen movies are shown. I know of no adjustment on a Sony that would cause this effect. Stargazer
