Cannot open the door of electrolux perfect balance washing machine

Machine died mid cycle. door latch is stuck and there is wet laundry inside.

  • Anonymous Jan 07, 2013

Thank you, Chris. I resolved this by doing something similar -- unplugging the machine for about 30 minutes and then plugging it in and turning the knob. Spraked to life long enough to allow me to open the door.

Hello Nina DeLuca - Try resetting the unit by unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. Wait approximately ten minutes. If the door does not open, then it sounds like the washer is possibly experiencing a communication problem with the control board, wiring failure or faulty door lock. Contact a professional to move forward accurately to properly diagnose/repair unit.

Hello,
It sounds as if something has got stuck in the filter jamming the drain pump, try draining the water out either through the filter but beware of the amount of water.Or take the drain pipe at rear and try to drain iinto a container or through the nearest door to an outside drain.Once the water is out you should be able to open the door. Then you will have to find out if some object is stuck in the filter(located at bottom right hand side).

Hi, if the washing machine stops in the middle of a wash cycle, the first step that should be taken is to perform troubleshooting steps to determine the cause of the problem. After the source of the trouble has been established, it can be resolved in most cases by continuing the troubleshooting process.

  • Make sure the lid is completely closed. Certain parts of a wash cycle will not start if the lid is not closed.
  • Check the load to see whether it is unbalanced. If the washer gets off balance, it may stop in the middle of a cycle. Redistribute the clothing so that it is evenly balanced around the drum.
  • Make sure the hot and cold water faucets connected to the washing machine are turned on fully. If the washing machine is not getting enough water, it will not be able to complete the cycle.
  • Inspect the drain hose for clogs or obstructions. The washing machine may stop if it is unable to drain water properly. Check the drain pipe that the hose feeds into for clogs or debris.
  • Check the house's circuit breaker panel or fuse box. The circuit may have been tripped or a fuse may be blown. Replace any blown fuses and reset any tripped circuits.

If after doing all these and the problem still persist, you have to call in a tech to check it out because there is no way to reset the Electrolux 1087

Water will not drain. sewer line is not pluged. Customer service says I could have a plugged filter at the pump ( we have dogs). How do I get to the pump to unclog it. Model EIFLS55IIW woody

Hi agnes! Washing machines, including those built by Frigidaire, have internal pumps. These pumps help drain out the water from the washer tub between the wash, rinse, and spin cycles. If the pump is damaged or the pump pulley system is frozen/stiff, the water can become trapped in the washer tub. In both cases, the pump assembly needs to be replaced. You can check by looking for a few signs that a pump is dying or already dead.
1 Start the washer and wait for the washer tub to fill with water. If you do not hear water or hear a motor whirring, the washer motor may be dead.
2 Open the washer lid in mid-cycle. Note whether or not the inner tub is still spinning around. The inner tub is the inside surface of the washing compartment with many holes for water draining. If the tub is not spinning but the motor is running, it is possible the pump is dead. Check the pump pulley by removing the pump from the washer and trying to rotate it by hand. If the pulley doesn't turn freely and is frozen or stiff, replace it. Also, if the agitator is moving but the tub isn't, this is a sign the pump is dying. For front-loading washers, do not attempt to open the door mid-cycle. Look through the glass door. If there is enough water to come up against the door, the pump is malfunctioning.
3 Wait for the washer to finish its cycle. Open the unit. If water is still in the tub, the pump is likely dying or dead.

Hi, the clever step is to power the machine off at the mains for 10 minutes. Depriving it of power MAY release the interlock door switch even if the cycle didnt.

Final attempt to get to it... Turn off power, unplug at the mains. drag the machine out so you can see the back. Remove the 2 screws that hold the top on, pull back or tap the top forward (depending on the model) to unclip it. Peer inside. You will see the door switch inside the chassis exactly in line with the door handle on the outside. See if you manually make the mechanism release, or if you have a stubby philips screwdriver, you can probably unscrew the switch completely.

If you trust yourself NEVER to open the door in the middle of a cycle, the machine will of course function without a switch. Just so long as you recognise that you will flood the place if you do open it with water in. Also if you put your hand inside during a wash (Or worse still a spin) the power of the motor combined with the weight of the wet washing will rip the arm clean off a fully grown man, so if you doubt yourself or you have kids (or kids may visit) don't leave it like this.

the nd error which is showing up in the unit is due to something blocking the motor.mostly its a blockage to the motor and rarely its a faulty motor.it can be anything like hairpin, socks, coins any metallic object this has to be checked and reoved the error will go.
washer has a latch and lock on the door. If this lock fails to open when the cycle is finished. You can rescue your clothes by:
1) Remove the bezel from the soap/bleach/fabric softener dispenser.

2) Locate the red cord near the right front corner of the dispenser opening. Pull on this red cord. This will unlatch the door so you can rescue your laundry. Then call for service.

My HE3 washer, about 4 yrs old is locked , showed error code 6

Here are the steps to unlocking the door manually if clothes are still in the machine.
1.Unplug machine
2.remove bottom panel
3.Reach up along the inside of the front panel and locate the botttom of the door latch assembly
4.Located on the bottom of the door latch assembly is a tear dropped shaped tab
5. Gently pull down on the tab about a 1/4 inch or until a click is heard.
6. You may now open the door.

This code means the control is unable to properly detect motor speed. Due to this the machine shut itself down.

Door is locked! Won't open! Laundry is stuck inside!

If the water has not completely emptied, this wont allow the door to open. Check by lowering the outlet hose into a bowl. If a fair amount of water comes the problem is likely to be a pump blockage

Washing Machine Door won't open

I had the same problem. I went through all the steps on this thread to no avail. Finaly I just pryed the thing open - with no damage, thank goodness.

Once open I saw that the latch in the door didn't move when I pulled the handle. The problem it seems was in the latch on the door itself. If you end up this problem and want to get wet clothes out, just stick a flat-head screwdriver, behind the door latch into the horseshoe-shaped metal bit and lever it open - no prying necessary.

Not sure how I'm going to fix this permantely but at least I got my wet clothes out and can do laundry as long as I keep the screwdriver near by.

To fix - I'll either need to figure out how to disassemble the door and replace the latch mechanism, or just buy a whole new door.
