f you are running the printer's Full Feature Software, go into the Solution Center in the Toolbox and look for a way to clean the cartridges and / or print heads. Do it twice. It uses a bit of ink, but it will get any extra residue drifting around on the nozzles.Your printer's Webpage:

Look on the Menu (on the Printer) for the Alignment test. This may also be listed in the same area in the software section where you find the "clean cartridges" option.
General Instructions (may vary):
Align the print cartridges

The printer automatically aligns the print cartridges after a new print
cartridge is installed.

You can also align the print cartridges at other times to ensure optimal
print quality.

To align print cartridges:

1. Load Letter or A4 plain, white paper in the In tray.
2. Open the printer Toolbox.
3. Click Align the Print Cartridges.
4. Click Align, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

Clean the Carts with Isopropyl Achohol, Open the printer settings, right click on the Printer Icon, open properties, Maintenance, clean print heads.

from the printer or from the computer you will have to make a calibration page and then scan it.
or - take out the cartridges and put them back, the printer should make its own calibration page, after it has finished take the printed page and place it on the platen glass and hit the scan boton.

After inserting new cartridges in the photosmart C3180 and closing the door it makes loud clicking sound coming from the cartridge area and won't print.

check your printer settings on the device you are using and make sure you have shaddow off or 3d off. the extras only work from the device you use, printer page from printer is basic settings.

Run the print head clean wizard in the control panel under printers/faxes section. If that dont work run the alignment wizard. One of these most likely fix it.
