I have just spoken with Acer Support, and where M5100's have dedicated graphics cards, this disables the onboard graphics including the HDMI.

The onl way to eabl the HDMI is to remove the dedicated graphics card, and revert to shared graphics which will enable HDMI. The problem with this, according to the support technician, is that it will slow the computer down considerably.

Why the hell do Acer do this? They must know this is an issue in the first place; absolute idiots.

SOURCE: My acer aspire M5100 getting into shudown mode

Check the temperature of the CPU in Bios. It is probably higher than the Safe temperature and it gets into shut down mode to protect itself.
Open it, detach the cooler from the CPU and clean it, detach the CPU from the socket, clean the paste from the top, put a new one, clean the socket and put everything back. It should work perfectly.
If you need further assistance, just leave a comment. Cheers

I have a acer M5100. Just added new card and now the HDMI port no longer functions. How do I enable it again or do I need to down load teh driver again and where can I get that?

This is almost certainly a driver issue. I know that a lot of ATI cards when installed have problems with HDMI ports. Updating your drivers and installing the Realtek High Definition Codecs (found here) will generally fix the issue.

If that doesn't work, let me know and I will get back to you. If you need more help, be sure to tell me what graphics card you are using and if the HDMI port in question is on that card.

Aspire M5100: changing the processor

I had the same problem, the most likely factor is that your motherboard doesn't support that CPU's either FSB or L2 or whatever. Just find a CPU with the same FSB as your old one and that one will work.
