Akai tv PT4298HD wont turn on. Only timer light turns on.

I unplugged my tv when the picture went off and to a static snow screen. We unplugged it and plugged it back in, when we turned it back on all that came on was the timer light.

SOURCE: AKAI PT4298HD no pic and no sound

Most likely, this is a problem with the convergence board. The convergence amps (STK392-040 x 2)are internally shorted. These can be replaced of the whole convergence board can be replaced. It's cheaper to replace the amps, but more convienent to replace the board (especially for the less electronically inclined!! :) Also, this could be from a leaking CRT. In CRT projection televisions, the red, green, and blue tube are filled with coolent (glycol). These 42" models are very bad about the tubes leaking (Akai and Samsung models)and are infamous for destroying the CRT driver board connected to the bottom of each tube. When this happens, the protection circuit kicks in and will not let the television start up. *PLEASE, FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, DO NOT FOLLOW THESE NEXT STEPS IF YOU HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING OF ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT!!!! There are four screws and three snap clips that hold the bottom on. UNPLUG THE TELEVISION, remove the screws and pull bottom outward to remove. The bottoms of the three tubes should be visible. DON'T TOUCH THEM!! Now look under each tube. If one is leaking, there will be a wet spot (or sometimes a puddle!) underneath the tube. This will have to be serviced by a TV tech. Hope this helps...

Do not panic! Do not throw your TV away like I wanted to! Here is what may be the solution for most of the members who have posted their complaints here recently. I am not an expert, but I followed all blogs from various websites and forums, and the conclusion was the same; replace the convergence board for this model. I purchased it from www.partstore.com and since this Akai is the same model as the Samsung Model # HCN4226WX/XAA, buy the Samsung BP95-00142E Convergence board for $77. It came to about $85 after shipping. The Convergence board has two black STK ICs and two colors of wires, a gray kind and a blue kind, all which have 'pins' and can easily be unplugged from the circuit board in the TV. It is basically a complete system that takes less than 30 minutes to install. It is a simple swap procedure, with no soldering. You only need the new board and a screwdriver! Remove the lower back board of your TV where the cables are plugged in (do not unscrew all the screws for the screen, as it is unnecessary, and might just damage your screen if you are not careful.) It has a u-like shape and comes off easy. Detach the gray wires connecting your old board to the rest of the circuitry, and detach the blue wires connecting the old board to the circuitry. On the old board, there are connectors marked, from left, blue, green and red. Detach those from the old board, and mark the wires so that you may connect the correct the wires to the new board. You then unscrew the only screw connecting the board to the TV, and unhook the board from the TV. Hook the new board to the hooks which held the old board, and screw the lone screw to the board. Plug the gray cables from the new board to the connectors where the gray cables from the old board were, and do so for the blue cables. Connect the multicolored cables to the blue, green and red, just as was done on the old board. Reattach the cover and test the TV. Please do not replace the two STK ICs only. When I removed my old board, I realized that there was a burn mark, where the ICs were, but maybe it was a fuse. You may replace the ICs only to discover that it was another problem. Good luck, and I wish you all the best in the repairs. I just saved about $100 for a repairman just to show up

Chances are real good that coolant fluid has leaked onto the Main bd or the Power Supply/Deflection bd or both shorting them out. The coolant can leak from one to all three CRT's.

TV wont turn on

You can try unplugging it for 4 hours. Like I have said you have 2 options replacing the parts that are possibly bad. Which is common on these tv's. It will run 550-1000$. Your more economically viable solution is to replace the tv.
If you need further assistance please ask.

RED LIGHT FLASHES 10 TIMES BUT WILL NOT TURN ON!

There might really be a problem with the unit. Try unplugging it out of the power outlet and plug it back in after 30 seconds. If your using a power box (voltage regulator), try plugging it directly to the outlet. If all nothing happens, see a local tv tech in your area. The unit could be damaged.

Only the red light comes on

Whats up Wade?

This is DVD MIKE with Perfectimagess.Try this first .Unplug the TV for a while and press the On/Off button which is supposed to perform a "reset".After that, plug the TV back in. It should come on and the Timer light off. The picture and colors might be distorted, but pressing the Perfect Focus button on the remote control resolves this right away.

The problems is a black picture or the TV won't turn on. The Timer light stays lit even though no Timer has ever been set. The colors converge and the picture is pinched. I don't think all of the expensive repairs are necessary, My TV did go out after a week of non-use while out of town (I was out of town, not the TV). I don't know. I'll post more if I learn more. I hope this helps Wade,

Vacuum the dust off of the circuit boards and inside the cavity. TAKE CLOSE UP PICTURES OF THE CONNECTORS BEFORE DISCONNECTING FROM THE CIRCUIT BOARDS. (IF YOU HAVE TO.) TAKE OUT CIRCUIT BOARD MOUNTING SCREWS. AND REMOVE THE BOARDS.

VACUUM THE DUST. LOOK- SMELL AND CLEAN THE GROUNDS, AND CAREFULLY CLEAN THE BOARDS. ASSEMBLE. DOUBLE CHECK CONNECTIONS WITH PHOTOS,
AND PLUG IN, TURN ON AND HOPEFULLY ITS ALL GOOD.

WADE WORK WITH ONE HAND AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE SON!!

Akai PT4298HD problemo

I'm not a repair guy, just happen to have one of these TV's. Seems to me that unplugging the Convergence Board removes it from the equation and suggests something else might be the problem. I got most of my help from here and also from this thread:

http://www.tv-forums.com/forum/TV_Equipment_C4/Projection_TV_Forum_F24/Samsung_42_Convergence_problem_P4569/

The samsung TV is the same TV as this Akai, it's just a rebadged Samsung.

One important difference in my TV from yours. I did have a timer light, and with the back off, I could hear it power up when I plugged it in and turned it on. The timer light would flash then it would go off.

When I removed the convergence board, I could clearly see burn marks on the bottom of the board where one of the amps was soldered on. That gave me some piece of mind in ordering the part. I just scanned that other thread but remember some people talking about the power supply failing as well as the main board, you might pursue those avenues.

I wish you luck in fixing this!

RED TIMER LIGHT BLINKS AND WILL NOT POWER UP HELP

Open back of TV, there will be two STK's (black boxes) unplug the harness connector from the power supply into the stk board and turn on. If you get some light to the screen, you know now to replace the two STK's and then replug the power supply to the convergence board. If that does not work, the power supply may also be bad.

AKAI PT4298HD - Does not turn on

Mine had the same symptoms. It was the convergence board. I replaced it and all is fine. the part number is BP95-00142E and is available from vancebaldwin.com. It's simple to replace...

you can check this before you buy the part. take off the lower back of the tv. Convergence board is on the right in about the middle of the tv - top of the lower part of the back. comes off with one screw. you can unplug the power (mine was a red plug), then plug the TV back in and it should come on. If it does, picture will be bad, (it can't converge the tubes, obviously), but you should see the picture.

good luck
