Connect Dell Inspiron 6400 to VIZIO E601i-A3 60-inch 1080p LED HDTV using VGA Connector

Dell Laptop Inspiron 6400 has ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 video card. The TV has VGA (PC) and HDMI inputs. The laptop only has VGA output (no HDMI or DVI). I can connect the laptop to Westinghouse 26" 720p LCD HDTV without. However, when I try to connect to the Vizio 60" 1080p LED TV, the resolution stays at 800 x 600 and the display stays at 8 bits only.

When you connect the vizio try changing the resolution settings on your laptop to see if that makes a difference. Could be that your video card output is not really compatible with the higher requirements of the Vizio.

SOURCE: Connecting an LCD TV to a computer to use as TV and Comp. Monitor.

Im no expert on the subject, but I use my L37 for a monitor, and use just the vga adapter. It works good as a monitor, and both dvds and my hdtv wonder tuner card look great through the vga connection. They do make adapters for dvi to hdmi. Although, hdmi also carries sound, but you wont get that out of your dvi output from your card. So you might not have sound when using that connection, as your tv may not look to the headphone type jack used for sound imput from your computer when you select the hdmi source on it. If you have speakers already connected to your computer you may not care. Also if you have a 720 p Vizio, 1366x768 is the highest resolution you are going to get out of it anyway, if I'm not mistaken. I'm Not sure why you would need 2 connectios to the same monitor either. I posted 1 link below because they had several dvi to hdmi adapters. Hope that helps.

This is Situation Publishing Ltd. review:

With the advent of Intel's Core 2 Duo processors we're at lastbeginning to see the kind of power and portability that was beingclaimed, somewhat optimistically, back in the early days of notebookcomputing. Not one to miss out, Dell has rolled out its Core 2 Duobased Inspiron 6400...The 6400, like so much of the Dell range, comes in a variety ofuser-defined guises so bear this in mind when it comes to theperformance numbers and features I'll be making reference to. Indeed,in the time we've had the notebook, a Dell special offer has upped thememory to 2GB from the two 512MB modules of DDR 2 SDRAM featured in ourversion.

Our particular model also came equipped with Intel's impressive newmobile Core 2 Duo processor, the T7200, which ticks along at 2.0GHz offa 667MHz frontside bus. 4MB of shared L2 cache helps speed things alongtoo. Like the entire mobile range of Core 2 Duo processors it operatesat between 1.0375V and 1.3V and runs comparatively cool for its speed.
Furthermore, our test unit arrived with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400graphics chip and not the X1300 currently offered on Dell's website asstandard for all but the most basic version of the 6400. The X1400upgrade will set you back around £47 and is probably worth the extramoney seeing as the X1300 combined with the 15.4in WSXGA+ screen willnot be compatible with Windows Vista. In addition all models - again, except the basic one - now come equipped with an 8x dual-layer DVD°R/RWdrive. The hard disk is a Samsung 120GB SATA unit which should fend offobsolescence over the life of the notebook

VerdictWith a base price - for the T7200 Core 2 Duo - of £789 inc. VAT andshipping, the Inspiron 6400 is an excellent and affordable route intothe Core 2 Duo world. It has all the credentials to be a dependablemultimedia companion with its great screen, comprehensive connectivityand decent processing power. But be aware it's neither exciting to lookat nor to game on!

Best of luck

Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop. After your computer is attached to an external monitor, press the <Fn> key and the <F8> (CRT, LCD) key to switch the video image to the display. If the external monitor works, the computer display or video controller may be defective.
